That is a seriously beautiful package of a sword. Perfect for fencing out of harness. With those stats, I'd kill to put that thing through its paces. Another turn-green-with-envy sword....

My pleasure.
And thank you and Odingaard for putting the bug in Sonny's ear to get an XVIII blade in front of the Malatesta hilt.

Great review of what looks to be an AWESOME sword... I had an Albion Munich recently and feel in love with its balance and looks... alas the grip was a bit to thin for me. This one looks a but better at the grip... and I love the malatesta guard on it. The super detailed info on the blade thickness and width at several points was wonderful to see as well, really gives you a sense of the blade. +1 sir.

Thanks Sean;
I can't think of too many medieval swords that aren't a little spare in the grip department. Proportionally the VA grip gives the perception of thickness relative to the lean blade. It is perhaps a bit thicker than the Signatures.
Impressed with A&As hilts in terms of comfort. The heavy uncorded leather they apply may not be sexy, but it's a great shock absorber.

beautiful sword Dave. makes me want one. as for the grip I actually like the grip to have a little bit of bite to it. the XII.2 munition grade ATrim I recently sold had a rather soft leather squishy grip and I didn't like the way it felt after I got used to the hard lines of the Valiant gripped ATrims I have. took me a little getting used to but once I did there was no going back.

Thanks Tom. Truth to tell I'm more a sucker for a wire wrap myself. (lol) The thickness of the grip is usually more the issue than it's composition.

Another outstanding review from you Dave, and of a truly magnificent looking blade to boot. I like the firmer more positive bite of those grips on the lighter VA blades from the signature line. It helps me with my alignment and control. I will concur with you on liking a bit more cush, but only on a harder hitting blade. A cushy grip on a light sword just feels vague to me for some reason. Great info, and congratulations once again
