Why do we refill the bottles we use for cutting with water?Even before I came here I always did it, and just wondered if there is any real reason for it.
Common sense tells me that it gives the bottle more weight and mass...plus it looks cool when the water splatters everywhere, haha.

Here's a few reasons ;
It makes the bottle heavier, which makes it far less likely to bounce away when you hit it. (You can try cutting empty bottles, it is very challenging...)
It won't damage or corrode the blade like juice would...
Water is usually easy to come by.
That's pretty much all I can think of now ...

Now and again I do as well... but it is MUCH harder and so sometimes a lot more frustrating then fun.

It is a pain retrieving them from halfway across the yard.

You put water in them because-
When the woman gets on you for goofing off with a sword, you can tell her that you are watering the lawn.
Beer gets all foamy and sticky.
You can rinse off your sweaty dome while cutting.
You have chaser for Bourbon when you are done cutting.

That video was a IN YOUR FACE one! lol Yes, it does put more weight in the bottle, better chances of making a good cut, and I hate trying to slice empty ones anyhow.

Every time I think of or see that cut Tom, it just makes me wish that I had gotten mine on video.... I'm sure I didn't look as good as you did, but the bottle didn't move at all, it was freaky. For a split second I thought it must be glued or something, before I realized that I had just set the bottle there myself, lol! GREAT cut. Now onto the OP's query... I find that cutting filled bottles is much more fun for many reasons, but here are a few: the splash, the potential to leave the bottom standing being so much more likely than when cutting empties, and most of all, the ability to get multiple cuts on one bottle wihtout having to pick it up over and over again, lol. Besides, I don't drink alcoholic beverages. And water is cheaper. -Slayer

and that, Slayer, is why I ALWAYS have the camera rolling when I cut. you did it once you can do it again. just get yourself a trash bag full of empties you dug out of the can next to the soda machine and get to work. spend all day cutting, cut 100+ bottles and you'll get another one. I actually did that 4 times that day but only got one of camera.

Thanks, Tom... Ithink I might just try that soon. Fuma- Huh? Whatsits? :?: I don't get it. :/ Ric- Jello, FTW! That was your best video ever, I think... I'll have to make a compilation, put them all on DVD and watch the lot consecutively in HD to be sure, but it was sure at the top tier of the bunch. -Slayer

Yeah...the punch-line isn't nearly as funny without the set-up...
