Virtually since the beginning SBG, members of the forum have asked for a way to donate funds to support SBG and its impact on the sword community. We've turned that down in the past because we believe in supporting SBG the "old fashioned way" - through the sales of the SBG Store.
SBG Store sales have supported both the business and the forum, including the constests, review swords and other ways we try to give back to the community. However, the worldwide economic situation has taken its toll, and the cost of running the forum plus the website PLUS the store and having enough left over to make a difference (by, for example, supporting smaller vendors) is getting harder.
So. We are on a limited time basis opening up a "donate" option on the SBG forum. We are starting the SBG Forum Fund. People will be given the opportunity to make donations towards SBG's upkeep the way they have asked to do so... HOWEVER, since we don't believe in getting "something for nothing," we've decided to turn this into a contest as well!
Ever heard of a 50/50 draw? It's a fundraiser in which half the money raised goes towards the organization, while the other half goes towards a prize for one of the people who entered. The SBG Forum Fund will work the same way. For each donation of $10, you get one slot in the draw.
That means if you donate $10 you get one slot, $20 you get two slots, $50 you get five slots, and so on. For all the money that comes in over the next month or so, half will go to SBG upkeep and the other have into a pool. At the end of the set time period we do a draw, and the winner gets half the funds to spend at the SBG store - on ANY product (or products)!
If the SBG Forum Fund reaches $200 the first time around, then you'd get $100 at the SBG Store; if it reaches $500 then you'd get $250 to spend - and imagine if it goes any higher than that! And the more you donate, the greater the chance of winning.
We'll try it out once and see how it goes, and perhaps do more of these throughout the year. In the meantime, make your donations via paypal at this page on the site: www.sword-buyers-guide.com/SBG-Fundraiser.html
In increments of $10 - and then cross your fingers!
Thanks all!
