Hey guys I see a really cool FS dao special at Kris Cutlery. There is a really small crack near the tip but it still looks really good! Don't hear much about Kris Cutlery's Chinese swords, though I know there is a plethora of katana reviews...I've heard of poor reviews of their jian from Rodell but I dunno about their daos. Most importantly does anyone know if these things have a full tang? :?:

Oh yes... full tang. I've had a couple of the Gim swords... no Dao's... but everything I've had from Kris Cutlery was well made. I saw the Dao your talking about... I was tempted but I think that crack on the edge is a major issue for the integrity of the blade... hence the huge discount.

Where that crack is at ( < sounded like street slang didn't it)
Anyways, I would leave that one well alone unless you want it for a display piece, where that blade is cracked at, you would be flirting with disaster using it on anything. It looks to me like the crack is right in the sweet spot of the blade.
One of our Dao afficianados may correct me, but I say it is a non starter.

Yeah, that was my impression as well... When I first saw it and how cheep it was I got all excited... but then when I saw how deep the crack was, and where it was.... I understood why the discount was so big.

I emailed Kris Cutlery about that dao, asking if they felt it was repairable or safe for cutting...Their response:
