.....I think guns are like pretty awesome.....swords are also pretty awesom...this forum....its pretty awesome....I mean if this thread occured on any and i mean any other forum it would have ended up in everyone cussing each other out and then somone would get banned from the forum probably. I love this community. And chop let me know if I understand u right...you like japenese swords because of the tradition and history behind them, the sheer coolness of them, and the short but visible relationship between 2 sword fighters staring each other in the eyes etc etc etc where a gun is pretty much shoot and run. I only ask this cause i like to make an effort to understand the people on this forum.

Kriegeschwert, the problem is as well I am trained in how to handle firearms. There was a period in my life where I was trained to use them and I don't wish to elaborate on that mate, however what turned me off them was their impersonalness. To weild a sword against someone you have to look them in the eye so they understand your intention to cut them down. With a firearm, you can be up to a mile away and I find this a bit deceptive to your intention. I don't like as well being reminded of their destructive power, it brings back bad memories. The gun-using period in my life is well and truely behind me and thank god I don't have to rely on them anymore. Maybe I am too Chivalrous, but if I was to meet Shootermike in the US. I would be heading for the nearest bar, not the shooting range. I am not called "OL' hollow legs" for nothing you know ? ;D ;D No need to explain further, chop. I was just giving you a little good-natured ribbing in my above post. Even though we disagree on the subject of guns, I respect your right to your opinions, and I've found it quite interesting to hear the other side of the argument. My apologies for stirring up any bad memories, man. I went through a time in my life that is unpleasant to think about, too, so I sort of know where you're coming from on that count. No offense intended. On a lighter note, I'm sure Mike would be glad to have you drop by for some of that famous Texas BBQ and a few brewskies, and maybe a little backyard cutting (hopefully, BEFORE you start swilling the brewskies ;D).

Completely offended? I think you are mistaken my friend. I am in full support of blasting the bajeezus out of a euro sword. Mike's arleady done that. I don't care if it's a katana that's done broadside. Any sword would suffice. my motive behind this is to see what would happen if, on the odd chance, a bullet struck the blade of swordsman instead of the swordsman himself.

Definitely, and I am working as fast as possible on my new house. You know... the one in the country with the sword training facility in the back yard, just off the back porch occupied by comfy chairs and a fridge stocked with beer! WooHoo!!! ;D Of course, the fridge stays closed until the weapons are put away.

Would this be the same new house with the banquet hall where we'll be holding the SBG Joint Birthday Party/Feast? ;D

What? Mike's giving away guns? WooHoo!!! I'll take the M-65 and one of the 4" .38/44's. DO you have any Mauser 98's laying around, Mike? If so, I'll take one of those, as well. ;D

oh no Please tell me you don't have any '98s lying around. I'm a huge Mauser fan, and would kill to own one. I actually do own a modified, Turkish (I think) Mauser, and a '88, with a slightly bent barrrel. I should see about having that fixed. Bought it at a show in Richmond for $150 because it looked and felt awesome. Been meaning to take it to a local gunsmith to have it fixed up... Though I think I'd rather have a 1911. I just love them so. Have I mentioned I'm not too good at typing on this phone? Such glorious typos... Thank goodness for letter recognition.

*puts on Mr Sensible hat* umm other than being a bit of slightly dangerous fun, what does shooting a sword prove? Please take the money the sword and ammo would cost and give it to a hungry person.

Well Ron, that's a good question (though it's probably rhetorical). As someone posted previously, it all started with we watched the YouTube video of someone shooting a nihonto katana with first a .45 ACP and then a Browning .50 cal heavy machine gun. At the time, I said shooting a katana on the edge with a low velocity handgun round was a marketing gimmick, and that any good katana should stand up to that without damage. To "put my sword where my mouth was" so to speak, I duplicated their testing on my Hanwei Banshee, since I didn't own a katana. Apparently, Paul Chen at Cheness was amused by this test and decided he would like the same thing done to one of his katanas to see how it faired. One thing led to another, and the above test was worked out. It wasn't really designed to prove anything, other than to show that there's nothing "magical" about gunfire. And that modern swords are a lot stronger than most people seem to think. And possibly to provide some entertainment to this forum. If I had known what a stink it was going to raise, would never have posted it. I would probably have given it to Paul so he could post it somewhere else. Sorry if you didn't like it. In hindsight, I shouldn't have posted this in the Sword Reviews area. That was a mistake. It should be moved to the Forum Cafe or to General Discussion and I should add a bit at the top about what led to all this.

Great job Shooter, I loved it. Don't take things so personal guys. It is just a second hand sword that wouldn't be used for anything anyway. Hell Mike, shoot it some more.......
