I figured I'd break in the new forum with a topic about a coming soon sword; it's fantasy only insomuch that it comes from the video game Assassin's Creed II, but I still feel it belongs here more than the Renaissance section since it doesn't really seem to have any historical precedent that I can find. Anyways, it's not expected out until later this month, so what are your first impressions of this sword? www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=883019&name=Assassin%27s+Creed+II+Sword+of+Ezio

Well, it will definitely complete your Ezio costume, if that's what you're looking for. However, Ezio used a *lot* of different weapons in ACII. If you are willing to consider other, more functional weaponry, you can buy other pieces like this schiavona: www.reliks.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=1155 .Ezio used one in the game, so it can complete your costume. Likewise, you can also pick up a functional cinquedea from online sites as well. --Edward

I think I only bought the schiavona in game to complete the weapons collection; otherwise, I used the Sword of Altair (highest stats), but I mostly preferred his hidden weapons: dual hidden blades (those things were so much fun), hidden pistol, and poison needle (a lot of fun to watch an enemy soldier go berserk and attack his allies before falling down dead), plus the throwing knives. Other than that, I didn't actually use his sword or short sword if I could help it; many enemies block or counter, which slows down the fights and, if you're in a pinch with health, can easily kill you, whereas the hidden blades are an instant kill and can't be countered.
Anyways, thanks for the info, Ed. Still, maybe this run of replicas will be better than the original AC gear. It looks like there's less to screw up.

Well, it would be hard for it to be worse then the first run of AC gear... because that stuff was real crap. I do like the look of the Sword of Ezio... so I would love if it turned out to be a nice functional piece.

I'm of the same mind, Sean. I like the look of it quite a bit, so I would really love it if were truly functional and not something like Deepeeka where they say it's function, but not so much, or worse, like the last run of AC gear. Everything I've heard about it mentions plastic handles and paint. Which is something of a shame, since I wanted the fighting knife (my favorite weapon in the original). However, whether it turns out to be functional or not, I'm a little annoyed that you have to buy the belt & baldric to get the sword's sheath.

So they sell the sword without scabbard/sheath? Thats a bit out of the norm for MRL... their swords almost always come with some kinda sheath... albeit a crappy one.
