Well, I got half of it back, and getting even that was a hassle because there was some miscommunication and disagreement between the seller and me and it didn't end up being the best transaction. The whole thing had me angry but I just decided to let it go. Kris Cutlery advised that I just bend the blade back to true and that it would probably be fine but I'm not going to mess with it.

That’s one heck of a collection you’ve got there, amazing in fact! I’ve actually been looking for a sabre like you Windlass American Revolution for a while now, could you tell me how it handles? I’d like to get a pair of sabres with that sort of hand guard to dual-wield.

Thank you, Elinvar. Of course, there are now a few pieces missing, a few pieces added, and a few on the way, so it does need to be updated soon. The saber, though, I still have and can comment on. The reason I picked it is it's one of the few that feels light enough that it's not unwieldy. I have really liked the Cold Steel 1796 light cavalry saber for a long time and I almost got it but passed it up for this one instead. This one was a lot cheaper, too! I haven't cut with it yet but I have done my fair share of swinging it around. I like the way it handles for sure. Very controllable. I don't think a pair of them would be a bad idea at all.

It's been over a year since I first posted these pics so I decided that I'm at a point where I think I should do a major update. I'm constantly buying/selling/trading, so a lot of pieces have come and gone but there are still some oldies but goodies. See below: Valiant Armoury/Angus Trim Tac 307 AKA the Zombie Slayer, Windlass Sword of Roven, Hanwei Rhinelander, Hanwei/Tinker Great Sword of War, Angus Trim 1509 Windlass Arbedo, Del Tin 14th Century Medieval, Albion Sovereign, Albion Squire, Albion Reeve, Valiant Armoury Bristol Hanwei Kukri, Windlass Cobra Steel Kindjal, Windlass Indo-Persian Charay, Windlass Spanish Falcata, Valiant Armoury Praetorian, Valiant Armoury Actium, Indo-Persian Pesh Kabz (not sure who the maker is) Darksword Armory 100 Years War Sword, Windlass American Revolution Saber, Confederate saber (unknown maker), antique Ancient Order of United Workers sword Ranger sword (unknown maker), United Cutlery Herugrim, United Cutlery Second Age Gondorian Shield, United Cutlery Sting, United Cutlery Glamdring Hanwei Raptor Nanbokucho, Musashi Bamboo, Hanwei Raptor Moroha Zukuri

Wow. You've really managed to expand your collection, Kristie. If you don't mind me asking, what are your impressions of the Rhinelander, the Kindjal, and the Charay?

Yeah, it has expanded, and yet my ultimate goal is to have a few very good pieces and get rid of the excess clutter. But somehow I've been very unsuccessful at that.
Um, the Rhinelander I bought on a whim. I didn't find it particularly great-looking, but I handled it, and bought it for its merit in that category. It's a big sword, but the balance is great. And the looks in person won me over, too. I like the wide fuller and think it's unique on this type of blade. Also, the little details on the end of the quillions are nice, I like the side ring, and I have always loved upturned crossguards. Havne't cut with it yet, but I expect it to be a treat. I find the round grip to be a little strange but don't expect it to be hard to get used to.
The kindjal I picked out of all the Cobra Steel offerings because it's the biggest, I think, so it's a little more swordlike than knifelike. It feels substantial in the hand. Kind of reminds me of a little gladius, which is what it mostly looks like, too. The blade is not as wide as one, but it's definitely similar. It's a nice little chopping tool, is how I'd describe its function. I've used it on little trees growing in the fenceline and stuff. And the grip is fantastic - maybe a little thin for some peoople's tastes, but really grippy, which is great for this kind of piece.
The charay is one of the more unique pieces in terms of handling. A lot of the weight is in the handle. Since the blade is so tapered, you tend to want to stab with it, and there's great point control. But on the other hand, if you grip the grip nearest the pommel, and use the flared shape of it to secure your hand, you can really give it a lot more power for chopping. I really like that about it. And another thing I like is the antiqued type of coating that Windlass has put on the blade because it's very good for keeping the rust and scratches off.

The 1509 easily handles better than anything else I've got. The only complaint I have is the pommel being uncomfortable but I wouldn't want to switch it out because the handling is so perfect as it is. I know there would be a lot of interested parties if I ever decided to sell it.

Does anyone know why Gus stop making it? It is such a handsome looking sword. I want one too. I will duel Sean for it.

Gus quit making most of his old models... There were some health issues, and the stress of the machine sale... and a lot of lessons learned from his years of sword making.... guess he felt it was time for a fresh start... short answer: he grew Still , lot of good old models....

Marc,
I wonder if Gus and be persuaded to recreate that particular model. There are enough people who love it. You also said "...and a lot of lessons learned from his years of sword making." Does that mean that there is something about the performance of the sword that Gus did not like, therefore stop producing it?

No.... not at all, and it should be noted that i am not an any way any kind if spokesman for Gus.... Maybe Tom could speak to it better.
i am just relating stuff he and I have talked about... he's never told me any reason certain models got phased out... I think its just the evolution you know? He was still offering the AT classics through Christian...when he started with the Makers Mark series... then he made the move to VA and then on to T&T , and the classics didn't make the transition.
i bet he still has the programs though, I'd talk to Tom if I wanted one... I expect he could make it happen.

1509 you say?...
Kristie and I have two of only around 5 or 6 that were ever made. It just wasn't that popular with Gus, so he never made any more. I've always thought mine would be a better sword if it were cut down to a single-hand grip and mounted with a complex hilt. Sort of a proto-rapier cut&thrust sword. Still thinking about it...

I ordered a 1509 once... and it arrived jacked up and missing parts... it was a horror story. I always wanted another one... but never saw one avalible. I think the 1508 is actually more rare then the 1509... I've only ever seen 2 1508's... I've seen 4 or 5 1509's.

Well , Micah with Schola Gladatoria had one.... Michael Edelson has had two , one of which has been been passed around , then there's mine... And somewhere I've seen the LPM version with a fat pommel on it, and there was one on Gus's site with the ricasso not rebated .... And that's all the 1508s I've ever seen.
