Interesting; that appears to be an Albion Dane. Anyways, nearly all swords had some form of cross guard on them, be it a cross piece, a knucklebow, a tsuba, quillions (like a cross piece, but smaller), or whatever the hell the side guard of Messers is called. The only type of swords not to have guards, to my knowledge, are stick-swords (including cane swords) and an oddity of Japanese katana fitted in the aikuchi style (the Musashi Zetsurin is a good example), but I don't believe there were many of them historically, hence why I called it an oddity; it's a style most common to tanto.

We have four snakes of different breeds and sizes, two lizards of different types, a tortoise and our roommates have a cat. Truthfully, the most fearsome is the gecko. There is a running joke around the house that if someone broke in, we would 'chop them up and feed them to the Burmese...or just have the gecko take care of them for us.'

That last one sounds like torture; listening to a gecko tell you how you can save on car insurance in a British accent.

I used to have a 'guard' for my guns until he decided to explore one day and not return. he was a kitten in this picture and was curling up next to a Russian SVT40 The white kitty was a friends cat who just loved me. I had gone shooting and laid the guns on the bed and he jumped up and claimed them as his.The one hes laying on is a Yugoslavian SKS and the other is a Romanian PSL that i dont have anymore Attachments:

here's my sword-guard protecting Sean's Fable Blades. I told her if she didn't move I was going to pack her in that box and mail her to Sean. she grudgingly allowed me to get to the swords.

Vince: I don't have that kind of gecko. The one in the commercials is a Madagascar giant day gecko; mine is a New Caledonian crested gecko. Here is the difference: Madagascar giant day gecko. Image from massasaugaimports.comNew Caledonian crested gecko. Image from allposters.comMy crestie thinks that anything that moves, regardless of how big it is, is food. I spent a good hour last night, tormenting him with a swizzle stick. He kept chasing it and bonking into the glass of his terrarium in the process. I could go into all the differences between the two species, but I would get this thread horribly off topic. Suffice it to say he's a ninja gecko, not an insurance salesman. He lives on my desk, close to my favorite swords, and he would attack anyone who tried to get close, including me, if he's hungry enough. So, I think he's a pretty good sword guardian.

Sorry, Midori; I was just being a smart ass. Besides, I think it'd be kinda cool if a gecko really could talk, let alone with an accent.

The cat in the OP bares a resemblance to my demon kittys... Marc: Your sword guard is frighting to be sure. Tom: I woulda taken good care of her... she's a cutie.

You really need a Tokay gecko for guard duty! Those things a vicious and aggressive. From wiki "The Tokay is also considered the "pitbull" of the Gecko world due to the fact that when they bite, they often won't let go for a few minutes and rarely up to an hour or more..."Sadly I have no animal friends doing guard duty. Unless you count my brother who might distract someone with long stories about useless information.

Whitefeathers: that kitty is so cute, I can see the caption now "I haz lubs for my gun". Kitty looks purrfectly happy with that gun.
Midori: Epic ninja gecko is epic. I used to have several blue tongues though they were all wild. Such beautiful colouring, just never put your finger any where near them.
If any lizard can be likened to a pitbull it is a blue tongue. I remember when I was younger and at a person's house this weird hissing noise and lots of barking and suddenly lots of yelping and their dog ran past in a blur with a blue tongue attached to the parts that people often neuter.
