I have a later generation Hanwei side sword and the hilt is reinforced and not hollow. You should have problems with it getting crushed or anything unless you have a grip like a vise. If you do get one of the earlier ones, you can always fill the hilt with JB Weld.
All and all its a nice piece for its price and handles very well, very light and responsive.

so the handle one the side sword is no longer hollow is it wood core

It's not wood cored. It is still a hollow tube, but it has reniforing walls or the like inside. It's tough to describe. I'll take mine apart later and try to see if I can gets some pics of it.

That sounds sort of like how my Torino's handle works. It fits the tang pretty snugly, and there's like about 3 concave areas on the inside of the handle. I tried to do pictures too but wasn't able to.
They may be doing it for weight reasons because this handle's actually pretty heavy.

Yeh... the new plastic ones are better... but still not suitable for full use IMO.
