I do not really know how to measure wobble. I can flex the sword several inches, and it returns true. I can thrust it through several layers of cardboard. But the tip does wobble a lot. I was not being sarcastic, I really do not know how I would measure the flexibility. A little help?

Yo tbrass, I too was wondering about how to tell if a blade was whippy, so I started a thread about it. In the first post you will see how I measured my sword, which I would disregard if I were you.LOL However, I liked Shootermikes way of measuring whippiness. His is the third post down. I hope this helps. /index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1194375757

Thanks Ricwilly, ShooterMike, and Mr. Hollis. I have officially and scientifically measured the wobble. With a real hard swack on the pommel 1 inch in each direction. My scientific finding is that the Ranger qualifies as a stiffy. BTW, the ranger has the most ergonomic handle of any sword I have ever held. Thanks for the help guys. TB

Clyde this really is an enjoyable sword. Kudos to you for the grip. It really has that light-saber feel. I own one high end sword, and the ergonomics just do not compare.
I have read that Albion's Baron, and Duke are really flexible also. Are they the closest in type to the Ranger, or is the Ranger too hard to compare to histortical types as it is a fantasy sword?

Yes you are correct it is a Fantasy Sword. But when we do a fantasy sword we try to give it a possible historical look (if that came out correct) (I will hold Rammstein to correct my verbage ). And we would like to keep it that way.

Hey, Mike, how has this sword held up? Still recommend it? Ya know... I was looking at the Ranger Sword on KoA the other day... and I noticed it was one of the very few swords they list as 'Very Sharp' when describing the edge. I wonder if tis really THAT sharp? BTW... impressive Thread-o-mancy... not quite record breaking, another just resurected a thread more then 2 years old, your a little under the wire... but still, impressive. ;D

And, yeah, I noticed the "very sharp" notation at KOA as well. I'm still looking at this sword really hard as my next pick up--had some extra expenses this month so it may have to wait until October.

Hey, Mike, how has this sword held up? Still recommend it? Arise, oh dead thread of yore... Well, it's hard to say, to be fair. The second Ranger sword I got was very soft. Along the lines of being annealed. This one is OK with respect to heat treat. Certainly not a "tough sword" as far as the steel goes. But it still can cut. Clyde had some real problems with his Philippine source. They really did a bad number on the Gen2 reputation for a while there. But I have a Witham River Viking sword he sent last year as a replacement for the first one I had. I tested the edge and it seems to be good. And I have never gotten a Gen2 sword that wouldn't slice paper. I haven't heard anything bad about his swords of late, and folks are becoming a lot more demanding in this market niche. So that speaks well for the current Gen2 offerings. Though in truth, I haven't seen or heard of anyone getting a Gen2 sword of late. I guess the bottom line is, you pays your money, you takes your chances?

Yes, but the customer service he's displayed in the past counters the 'taking chances' bit because at least with him, he'll make sure you're taken care of. A lot of them are doing it nowadays...I remember a time when that portion of the business was seriously hit or miss.

I thought that Gen2 had a lifetime warranty on all of their swords.

Thanks for the info, Mike.
Sounds like I'll be okay with it as I plan to cut bottles and mats with it and leave the trees and bricks to someone else.
I have noticed a lack of discussion regarding Gen2 lately. I was chalking that up to the hype around Valiant and the Hanwei Tinker line. But G2 still has some of the best looking swords out there and at good prices I think.

My older 12th Century Medieval sword and dagger both came very sharp and with proper convex edges to boot. I guess Clyde hasn't been around in a while. I haven't seen him since I returned at least. It'd be cool to see a newer G2 review and see how they're doing nowadays.

It'd be cool to see a newer G2 review and see how they're doing nowadays. I got a PM from Clyde out of the blue a few weeks ago... As for Gen 2 Swords, they are still one of my favorites in the sub 300 range. They were, until recently, one of the only swords with nice appleseed edges, cutting sharp right out of the box. Also, my experinces with them has been good, I have found them to be very durable swords. I guess the only knock on them is they tend to be a bit heavy/overbuilt compared to say the new VA swords or Hanwei/Tinker swords. I LOVE my Chaos sword tho... and my Knightly Ridding sword. I've wanted a Wasp Waisted Gladus for awhile... and there are a couple other Gen 2 swords I would not at all mind owning. I think they don't get talked about much anymore because we have not seen much new from them in awhile, or heard from them... and we have all these new VA swords and Hanwei Tinker swords shaking up the market... ...but there is still plenty of room in my heart (and collection) for Generation 2 swords.

Jonathan, they do. The only company currently offering such a warranty. Their swords are built to withstand a lot of punishment.
