OK Mike. You have had the New Version of the Ranger Sword. Everyone is in suspense. New Review Please. Clyde to too kind and highly overrates my reviews IMHO. I have had the new Ranger sword in my paws since Monday night, but unfortunately we've been having storms and tornado activity. The straight-line winds were up to 85 mph when I was trying to get home this afternoon so...no chance to go do any cutting or even take the sword outside yet. Sorry for the delay. However, I have one observation I will make based on just handling it in the house. To make a short story long... Rammstein has an Albion Ritter...just in case anyone didn't know. I have an Albion Count. They use the same blade and are different with respect to the guard, length of grip and pommel design. Everybody got the picture? Well, now a third sword has that blade. Or at least a blade so similar in handling that with my eyes closed...or even open...I can hardly tell the difference. The blade on this Ranger sword handles and just "feels" almost exactly the same as my Albion Count. The distal taper isn't quite as much. The Ranger goes from .250" at the guard to about .130" measured at an inch behind the tip. And it is sooo lively! So far, I can only think of one thing I am going to change, which is just my personal preference. That is to reduce the weight of the pommel a little. My personal preference is for a two hand sword to have its PoB at about 3.5 inches. This Ranger sword has a PoB of 0.0 inches. That's on the guard. But that makes it extremely light-feeling and very fast. After thinking about this a bit, I think this is one of the best things about this sword. The pommel has lots of metal, so each owner can tailor their sword to their exact preference as far as balance goes. And did I mention that the blade is AWESOME!!!

Ah, so someone else noticed too, I wondered if anyone noticed I picked that one up ;D ;D ;D Ok with all of the publicity I gave it, I'm not sure if anyone here doesn't know how much I love it. It is (was..?) my dream sword and I spent a year saving for it. Imagine taking your yearly paycheck and multiplying it by 2. That's how much the swords cost me in comparison. So if I make a big deal, don't mind me ;D Shootermike, pictures??? You're pictures are always excellent so please hurry up so I can wipe the drool off my mug

I want to see the ranger sword balancing on a fulcrum of some kind right at the pommel... that sounds really nifty for a sword that size... though the handling must be... odd... how's the point control with a PoB like that?

Sounds like a great sword shootermike. I've always liked the look of the Gen2 Ranger Sword. Now that I see how well it handles I guess I have to buy one. Thanks a lot, thats all my bank account needed another sword purchase. Sol

you bought another of esentially the same sword? hahaha a true devotee to ones favorites eh? but thats awesome, now you can dual wield with two rangers! ....... though I imagine, you being SHOOTERmike and all, you would have a gun in the second hand hmm but I suppose you could be holding two rangers and have a hidden deranger in your shirt that fires when a strings pulled with your mouth and then........ what the heck am I talking about, I need to go to bed

If you guys can't get sharp swords in Australia, how did Paul get his Gen2 swords? Is that really correct? Are the laws different for different parts of the country?

Hi Shootermike,
I'n Australia we do have different rules for different states. Luckily I live in one of those states with no rules. As for the review its was great. I only saw the Gen 2 Ranger sword on the weekend and it's going to be my next addition next to my William Marshsal Sword, so long as they don't stop producing them anytime soon.

Just a note on that unsharpened sword question: I've talked to a couple of people, and they have all got sharpened swords in the mail here in Canada, yet the laws say it's a dangerous good and illegal to ship - what gives? Maybe if it has a scabbard, so the blade isn't exposed? Worth a try? Definitely! ;D I'm liking this Ranger, too. I have a retailer looking into getting Gen2's into Canada - If alll goes well, this could quite possibly be my first BIG sword....

I also have a gen 2 Ranger in the latest incarnation. I love the look of it, and the way it handles. HOWEVER, it seems a bit whippy to me. Now, i was wondering if it is equally flexible as your Albion Count. I have never been exactly sure how flexible or rigid a sword should be. I know different types have different degrees of flex. But is the ranger too flexible for its type?
