Silly question, I mean are there any non-historic ones?
-For handguns compactness I like my buddy's Walther PPK clone. It fits in my back pocket,
Gives me the feeling I'd get in way too much trouble if I carried one (so I don't). People say it's underpowered,
but it goes through a 6X6 and my ears don't ring for a few shots.
-I like the grip on the Browning High-power the best. (the mag capacity is less than most staggered, but it does come in .40s&w in matte black...only good thing about .40S&w is the .357sig drop-in barrel, course the hi-power is NOT recommended to handle +P loads in any cal.)
-For practicality I like the Glock 19. the advantage of 9mm is ability to hit moving targets. I still like the .357 sig barrel dropped in a .40cal. model though. (Good info on .357sig in the wikipedia BTW).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.357_sig-I was shooting a 6" barrel mdl. 19 S&W and hitting 6 out of 6 bottles from a good distance, nice, but revolver.
-My favorite revolver all time Colt SAA in .45 long-colt. (always wanted to be a gunslinger with one, I'd carry extra cylinders for reloading though).
-
www.amderringer.com/lms.html Haven't handled it but this LM4 looks beatiful...been daydreaming on a saboted .45 acp down to smaller caliber(s) the width equates to longer length barrel (more burn volume)
-Actual old-timey "historic" always liked the pepper-box revolvers, and the Mauser "Broomhandle" Oh and the 2 shot derringers (linked in the lm4 page above)
-I had an awesome GI .45acp before (wide revolver style hammer and trigger) but it weighed about 4lb.s loaded, pulled my pants down on my belt, and I'm six feet barefoot, but the grip is too short for my hand. (.400corbon, powerful)
Rifles:
-I shot a H&K 93 in .308 win. very light, but it kicked like a 12 gauge, still nice for being so light.
-The M-16/AR-15 has little things about it that bug me AND it's expensive. Besides all it's round's strength comes from the velocity which decreases dramatically with short barrels.
-So If the [fecal matter hit the oscillator] I'd want something like this:
www.ak47builders.com/Pictures.ph ... 9&pid=6671 except with 75rd drum, threaded barrel, in 7.62x39.
Lb. for lb. nothing beats it.
I have to agree with many people though IF one (civilian) ever needs more than a 12 gauge they're pretty 'effed anyway.
Love the 3 1/2" magnum 12 gauge round ...18, .32 cal. buckshots each with about the effect of a 9mm round...hunted with one and it was like a b*mb going off! Dang reply too long for now...Be safe
had an FFl liscense at one time but I don't really mess with firearms anymore, I'm more into like starship type stuff that people don't even know exists these days and all
