as the title says, i'm looking for a short, thick sharp choppy/hacking/maybe pokey thing that's tough enough to use as a tough tool, but looks good enough to keep out of the garage, and also falls into the easily a deadly small sword category..my ideal budget for this is around $100. i've looked at a few different goloks and khukuris, but nothing's jumped out at me. i know himalayan imports may spring to mind for most people, but none of their stuff really jumps out at me either. any suggestions? a full tang and a blade length of 12-16 inches would be good, preferably close to a good 1/4 inch at the spine.

have you looked at some of the condor blades? they have one that looks like a lion saber, but is actually a machete.

I suggest you check out www.valiantco.com and www.traditionalfilipinoweapons.comBoth have multiple weapons like the one you are looking for. However, both might be a bit, or much, over your budget. I would also suggest the Cobra Steel blades offered on Kult of Athena and Atlanta Cutlery (Cobra Steel are a sub-branch of Windlass/Atlanta Cutlery, by the way). Hope this helps, happy hunting man.

I second Traditional fillipino weapns dotcom.
their stuff is really well made both durable and attractive.

i like what i'm seeing so far, it's weird to explain but i want something that's right in that range of too big to use like a knife, but not long enough to scream "sword"...i like kopis and falcatas too..the only thing i'm kinda leaning away from is the "tacticool" stuff..i know some of it is very durable but it does kind of initially come across as cheap

I have, like i said i'm biased towards construction thats both traditional and durable, and love full width tangs with handle scales..i think that's what draws me to the scorpion stuff. this spring and summer i'm gonna try some stock removal and make a couple knives, etc..i've always loved doing woodworking, and blademaking fascinates me.

I don't think that the cold steel machetes would fall into the "Looks good enough to keep out of the garage" category. Granted, I own two of em myself, and I LOVE them, but I wouldn't hang them on a wall over a fire place. Also, the plastic handles they have don't follow the traditional theme he was wanting.
I've been looking for something similar, and the Qama will be my next purchase as soon as I know that I've got 35 bucks to spend. Granted, I have some large hands, so I'm gonna probably take the grip to an angle grinder and widen it up a bit, and then knock down tho's ugly ugly pegs to something like a smooth peen.

Falchion springs to mind. The ultimate tool. Tree trimmer, sword, bowie, thruster, does it all. I don't know what cheap offerings are out there but you want a Falchion.

that would be pretty cool, i kinda like falchions..their old one was brutal..haha if anything needed to be that overbuilt, that was it right there. since i had something a little shorter in mind, i suppose it depends on how big the new one will be? i plan on another sword purchase once i hear back from odinblades on how much more money i need to throw at him..which should be in the next couple weeks. i'll do a review on his slightly upgraded "slice" once i recieve it.
