Back then? What about NOW?!?! ARE YOU CALLING ME OLD, YOU..... ? ;D Thanks, Mogur. You're right; I *was* young, not to mention over-eager, and kinda stupid, lol. I appreciate your faith that I've changed... however misplaced it may be. -Slayer

Cold Steel katana machetes...I bought two of them and they are pretty sharp and nice to hold in the hand. Cool balance and feel.
For about $23 - purchased from Internet distributors, not CS directly - it's not a bad little piece regardless of looks. And, you'll impress the neighbors when you hack away at your weeds and tree branches in half the time it takes them!

Wow Pants! Had I known that this existed, I might have gotten it instead of the Qama.
But I basically just hoped in here to let the OP know that I've just purchased the Qama from KoA, so when it gets here, I'll do a video review with some handling (didn't get the sharpened version, so there won't be to much cutting) But I'll let ya know what I think of it. I have a feeling that the grip might be a tad tight around my hand, but we'll see.

I'm a little wary of Windlass's thinner stuff after the tang on my lakonian sword bent..and realistically i have about $200 to spend but i'm not sure i want to dump it all into one blade..i'm thinking of a cheap beater and then the smaller thing maybe, i'm still ogling koa nonstop...the joys of sword budgeting..

I don't know if the Qama is gonna be all that thin. Just looking at the pictures, I think the thickness of the tang is around 1/4". I'll give you it's full stats once it arrives.

Try this one on for size: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=KRSBL&name=Kris+Cutlery+Baselard. Scabbard's nothing to write home about but it'll do for a utility cutter. I have the Coustille and it's a great blade, but I know that some folks don't like threaded pommels and this one has a threaded pommel. Never given me any trouble. Also the Windlass Gladiator sword, sharpened, is a great little blade, I think Ric Willy will vouch for it, as will I. Good luck.

(read as Kirk screams Khan!) ;D I just went to order the Qama and KOA advised me it's now on back order... you got the last one in stock...now I must wait a month for my own

I have owned the Windlass Qama and it's a great little blade. The hilt can be a bit problematic. The studs on one side are a bit large and close together for comfortable gripping. If you like to customize your swords, a new grip would make this an outstanding shortsword. It would also make a great little gladius. Good luck!

Don't worry Chris. While the site had said the Qama was in stock when I ordered it, apparently I had caught it right as the last one was being taken or something. Mine is on back order as well. Oh well, it's worth waiting for. I actually want to get it to see if buffalo horn can be sanded and still look good. I have some pretty meaty hands, so I doubt that even if I shave off the studs that I'll have much room to grip. So I was gonna work up a water trickle system and take my bench grinder to the whole handle and add on another inch to the grip. (More or less 1/2" in both directions) But if it fits my hand, then I'll leave it as is. Although, I suppose I'd still be doing service to the community if I DID try and lengthen the handle. Update: Ok, so we all have our heirarchy of vendors to go to when looking for a sword. Well, I decided to try out a few of the ones on the lower part of the list. It's not that I've heard anything bad about them or their service sucks, but usually the vendors at the top of the list are either active members here at SBG, or sell the blade for LOADS cheaper then anywhere else... and sometimes both! Well, I checked out Atlanta Cutlery just now and they have it in stock: www.atlantacutlery.com/p-1059-qama.aspxIt's 4 bucks more expensive, but they charge $1 less in shipping (still ship UPS tho) so it only turned out to be 3 dollars more. And to me, 3 bucks is worth a month of waiting. I only wish I'd have done this Monday Also, for you Canadians. Reliks has the Qama in stock as well... but I've heard less about them then ACC, and I saw they were up in Canada, so I figured shipping might be more down to the states. www.reliks.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=1948So Chris, I hope that this helps you aquire one sooner as well.

+1 for the effort! Bravo greg, and thank you. I live about 2hrs away from Reliks, but didn't even think of them as they just didn't have competitive prices compared to KOA when it came to the swords I was looking for. Reliks is right on par for the Qama but in Canadian funds so it ends up being a little cheaper.

Awesome! So you could probably drive there this weekend and scoop the thing right up (if you didn't want to wait on shipping.) Then again, I suppose you'd probably spend just as much on fuel for your car as you would for shipping. But I'm glad I could get swords in the hands of sword lovers quicker!

Your right about gas costing as much as the drive, maybe even more... but I might be headed up that way in the next couple of weeks anyway and now I have a reason (rather than an excuse) to stop by Reliks.
