Yeah - I could spare a few as that is how my wife sees it!! I always remind her that before swords I used to collect 60's-70's muscle cars and can switch back if the swords are a big problem.
Have a few CAS Europeans that will eventually find new homes. Gave away a few lower cost katana to some of my military buddies that had flaws but were functional.
As I move more into customs and higher (mid level) Japaneses, will have to downsize in the future.

So for better or worse, I own two of these which I bought when I first started out collecting some years back.
At the time, they were described as 1095 tempered steel. Also, The Pell Guy (I forget his name at the moment...sorry Pell Guy - I love your videos!) he worked these swords out on his tire pell. They can take a beating and dish it out too. They held up against the few hundred beatings he subjected them to. So very tough swords indeed.
In my experience, they are very sharp, tough blades. I believe that most of the weight - and they are heavy! - comes from the unrealistic and non-historical size of the guard, handle, and pommel. My dream is to someday find a local shop and have the handle and guard reshaped and sized down. The pommel will depend on the weight distribution after sizing down the other parts. Other than the hilt parts, the blade seems fine and daunting...and they do cut through tough cardboard with NO problem! I'd hate to be on the receiving end of the blade.
The real problem with these swords is the handle size. I'm not sure who they had in mind when they designed them. They are very thick, very round, and too smooth for a good grip. They look rather theatrical. I have large hands and I tire very quickly just trying to hold the dang thing. So I would say that if you got the means and inclination to work the handles and guard, go for it. The sheaths are crude but good, thick leather...rather Viking-ish looking.

The Duke of Exeter and Dagesse.
I actually like the Dagesse blade. If I had to go into battle or face off gladiators in the arena...this would be my choice - with the modifications mentioned above. It is one beefy blade at the base, but a narrow, sharp point at the tip - so the heaviness is slightly offset and puts the POB closer to the hilt. But either way, both swords handle more like battle axes.

So would it be worth it to buy the Duke of Exeter just to say I have one of the Old Valiant Armory swords and for some light cutting and a nice display piece.

So would it be worth it to buy the Duke of Exeter just to say I have one of the Old Valiant Armory swords and for some light cutting and a nice display piece. Honestly, with all the good deals out there right now, and the quality of stuff that is available for a few dollars more...not really. For instance, see www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2426&name=Hanwei+Tinker+Norman+Sword+-+SharpThis Hanwei Tinker Norman Sword looks like a much better deal overall. Not to mention all the fine deals on katanas that can be had too. Kris Cutlery has some decent sale items too that I think one can enjoy much better than the VA old school stuff. Unless you really know what you're getting into and why you want to do it, I'd ask around for much better quality deals on swords that you can use right out of the box.

Nah... most recently he is into guns... playing with them on his new property in PA. I think he is messing around with shotgun skeet shooting right now.

I think I've talked him into a CSS custom H/T Norman, lol... He wants a type X rather than XII, so the EMSHS is out, as is the 303S, but the Windlass CMS and the H/T Norman are both in the running. But between those two, there's hardly a contest... it's practically a slaughter, IMO. H/T's are good, but when they're sharpened and fixed up by Sonny & crew, WHOA. Anyway, good advice, Tom. -Slayer

thanks both you guys and another thanks to you slayer for talking to sonny for me I know I posted it in a thread but , would the guard on theh/t bastard fit on the emshs cause if it does then I'm going with the emshs cssd and if not then I'm doing the norman
(if you guys haven't figued it out by now I'm a little bit indesiseve when it comes to swords). However it will be one of these two now it's just a matter of money.
