Okay I've got two swords I'm preparing to review and I took some cutting video. I could use some advice on combining video cuts, and making the file size youtube friendly without losing too much quality. Thanks!

I believe that youtube re-sizes the files you send automatically.

the length of the video is the only thing you really need to edit to make work for youtube. as long as it is less than 10 minutes long you will be fine as they accept really huge files and unless you are using professional grade stuff you probably don't make files that are too large for youtube. what I do is just cut out all the walking around, looking at things, picking up pieces, and other such extraneous non-cutting activity. I usually even keep my mistakes in there (usually, not always. I have committed a few flubs you all shall never see)

One thing I've learned to use is "Windows Moviemaker". You can upload your raw film and then edit scenes, add effects and show titles/credits. It took me a night of fooling around with it to get the hang of how it works. After you get what you want in moviemaker, you can save it to your computer and upload it on youtube; that is as long as it's under the 10 minute mark.
Edit: I forgot to mention that you can upload more than one film on moviemakers board and add scenes from each one. I've shot more than 30 minutes of video before and scalped it down to 20. didn't want to, it was one of my instructionals, but it still came out okay in two parts.
If you have a newish PC, you should have moviemaker.

To work off of Avery's advice there, If you have a very newish PC, you'll probably have Windows 7. Windows Movie Maker doesn't actually come already installed when it's brand spankin new. You have to go download their "Windows Live Suite" ( download.live.com/ ) which is a free download I believe. But any system pre windows 7 but post... 2000 (I think) will have it. It might be that it came out on XP, but I think it was as far back as 2000. Anyway. yeah, Windows Movie Maker is a very simple tool to use. And as long as it's under 10 minutes, you are good for youtube. Remember, youtube allows HD uploads now, so unless you are using some professional equipment, then you'll be fine Can't wait to see the review!

The Youtube length limit recently increased to 15 minutes, btw, guys. Other than that, I agree with the above! WMM works wonders. -Slayer

The Windows Live movie editor stinks. Well, maybe not stinks, but it is very limited in what it can do. The old (XP and earlier) movie editor is much better.
You can look on the Microsoft site and find the regular movie editor version for Windows 7.
I agree with Tom. I just edit out the time in between cuts to save time and boredom for the viewer. If reviewing I tend to leave out the flubs unless they are specifically part of the review (ie:to show a poor edge). But I leave them in when just making a regular cutting video.

Some things are best left to never see the light of day, no? If y'all ever see a video of me cutting, it'll be so white-washed that you'll only see the good cuts (which happen very rarely) and nothing else.

Holy crap! He hit his foot!?!?!
Geez, I'll be that was a sobering moment. I'd had if Slayer had been the one to do that, he'd be minus a toe... or at the very least, ruin a good pair of flip flops.

No comments from the guy who used to have to go cut vines away from his house twice a week. I'm surprised I have limbs left. Machetes slipping when in the midst of heavy use is not a pretty sight.

I lost my grip on my Rittersteel Kat when cutting with a friend. It stuck in the ground not real far from him causing me to contemplate how I would explain a sword sticking out of his chest to the police.

...causing me to contemplate how I would explain a sword sticking out of his chest to the police. Calmly and with slow, deliberate words ;D

Heh... I mentioned the almost chopping my foot off at that cutting party in another thread recently as well. ;D It was about putting too much power into a swing, I think... ...good times.
