Yes you read the title right "Katana Machette" Even more funny is the description from Cold Steel "Have you ever longed to pick up your expensive, high performance Samurai sword and run amok through the woods stabbing, cutting, chopping and hacking every inanimate object in sight without the fear of losing all your hard earned money by damaging it?" Ok then, well anyway - anyone got one yet? I am tempted, and will take a hit for the team if not (it's only $40), - but anyone seen this yet? Of course they have a snazzy video over here too... www.coldsteel.com/two-handed-katana-machete.htmlThanks All, Rob (I really gotta stop buying swords and pack my damn house though!)

Cool video. Wonder if the blade was sharpened above a factory edge before they filmed it?

Heh... Cold Steel Vids man... they just make my brain melt and make me laguh at the same time. That short guy looks like he is going to give himself a heart attack when he cuts... also... WHY cut with slacks and a tie? As for the sword itself... hell, its only 40 bucks so it can't be much of a loss. Actually, it looks like its perfect for people who want to do exactly what the discription says... run around and cut random crap that you should not cut with a sword. I wouldn't be surprised if its actually fairly sturdy.

I don't know...machetes seems to be the "flavor of the season"...It seems to me like trying to reinvent the wheel. With time tested items like the S.A. bolo machete the Ichiban mentioned in the modern survival sword thread and more unique design options, like the Gurkha Kukri, I guess I don't see a pressing need for this type of item. I don't care for this "version" at all. I'm thinking of the blisters your blisters would have after a few hours of cutting brush with the funny, skinny little plastic handle...ouch! It just looks like a toy to me. I know C.S. spends plenty on consumer studies, product reviews, focus groups and what have you, so they must know better than I. I guess that's what makes a horse race, huh?

It's listed at $40, but you can find it for FAR less, btw. I've seen it at $25, somewhere, but everywhere that carries it is out of stock... I've been pretty curious about them, so I may place an order for when it gets back in stock soon, just for the heck of it, and then when I get it I'll do a review... Can't go wrong for the price, and if I hate it, I bet I could sell it on the ColdSteel forums and get my $ back. Now, just to get $ so I can order all this sharp and stabby goodness that I've been wanting... -Slayer

I already made arrangements for some custom orders and then my money didn't come. I'm chomping at the bit to order my sharpies. Could care less about this particular CS machete but my 24" Latin is wanting a bedfellow.

If only the blade was a little longer, and the handle a bit shorter, that would be exactly what I am looking for! Looks Sharp. Looks pointy. Looks ugly. I would invest in one of these if I was going for a trek in the jungle, but thats it. For me, my sword collecting taste, is not only about functionality and performance, but also about aesthetics. This one fall drastically short in that department for me.

Hell, we just found the best thing for people who need an indestructible katana to bang on trees and other large inanimate objects

Cool video. Wonder if the blade was sharpened above a factory edge before they filmed it? Hmm, if you notice in the video the edge isn't powder-coated. The entireity of the blade is typically coated with CS machetes and they (From experience) come with jagged or semi-sharp edges 9/10 times. This leads me to believe they re-profiled the machete prior to filming, though that is just what I can see from the video. Always the possibly of me being incorrect. EDIT: Now that I think about it, CS has some videos floating around on how to re-profile ones CS machete. This is because they acknowledge that the edges they put on their machetes aren't exactly razor sharp, though "They can easily achieve such an edge with 10 minutes on a file".

Sal! We've missed ya, man. That being said... I think you're onto something, there. I believe that CS intentionally leaves the machetes dull, though. After owning some of their unbe-freaking-leivably sharp knives, I can attest to the fact that getting a good edge isn't a problem for them. A lot of people like machetes with 'meh' sharp edges, though, for utility uses, so I guess CS saves a bit of $ on sharpening and appeals to everyone that way, since sharpening them is so easy. Just my $0.02. -Slayer SPELLING EDIT

Saw one of these on a table at a gun show in the $30 range. Kinda ugly, but I bet it'd be a heck of a chopping machine.
...and now I want a ham sammich.

So far as a Cold Steel machete, I'd prefer the two hander that looks like a giant meat clever. For Zombies and what not.
Or the Natchez Bowie...ohhh the Natchez...

That... thing is ugly as sin. Love how they just stuck 'katana' into its name for... whatchamacallit?... Well, to sell. That is nothing, nothing like a katana.
...Oh well.

For instance, I really like their cheap 4116 line for general purpose blades. But, as much as I like my roach belly, I can't force it to hold an edge longer than it would. It really doesn't hold one all that well, so I wound up using a belt sander to put convex edge on it and polished it up on a slack 6000 grit belt. Trust me, such a simple modification on one of those knives makes the edge last a lot longer. ^_^

Maybe you guys missed it, but the CS two handed katana machete is a CUTTING DYNAMO!!!!!! Man if I had a dollar for every time I had to cut my way through hanging hams out in the triple canopy jungle.
