Historical swords/weapons which you would like to have made, either by a manufacturer or a custom swordsmith. (Fantasy is already covered in another thread in the Fantasy section) I felt like sharing a few I would like to have custom made one day (or customize myself, or see replicated by a manufacturer) and I would be very interested in seeing what swords and/or weapons other members would like to have made. (I've started this thread in the "general" section as not to limit the choices to any particular epoch and/or weapon...) One example I thought was especially nice and attractive is this one, from the Royal Ontario Museum: The brazil-nut pommel on this one is of a shape I find particularly nice and it sports a really long blade (compare to the hand-&-a-half beside it). I didn't measure the blade but would estimate the whole sword at, or even longer than, 40 in. Notice the short grip. Next, Schiavonescas in one-handed and long versions: (pic from Del Tin website) (pics from the Hermann Historica catalogue auction 48) This kind of saber I would like to see in my collection someday: (Drawing by Pablo, one of my friends) Then, of course, as stated in another thread, I would really like to have a katzbalger guard on a long-bladed sword: (pics from the Ethnographic Arms & Armour Forum) So, what sword and/or weapon would you like to have made? (p.s.: For those wanting to look at thousands of antiques swords and weapons, I recommend this site: www.hermann-historica.de/gb/index_alte_auktionen.htm, pick an auction catalogue in the left menu)

The first sword shown in Oakedshott's Record of a medieval sword is an iron age, Le Tene type II or III sword, its beautiful and elegant looking, with a 26 inch blade, double fuller, and a squared off end, making it a purely cutting sword . I’ve never seen any production swords like it, but I would love to have one, ill see if I can find a picture on line of it. here it is:

Slayer, check Lutel's hammers Thanks, Enkidu! I've never even heard of Lutel, lol, except for a few passing remarks on MyArmoury. I'll go do a quick google search on 'em and see what I turn up... +1, thanks again. ;D -Slayer

There are very few historical swords I can look at and go: "That one is perfect!" If fantasy creations are out, then most likely I'd have a plausibly historical sword cobbled together from various historical examples of roughly the same period. That said, this bad boy comes to mind:

This 16th century hand and a half sword housed at the Victoria & Albert museum in London: collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O97450/hand-and-a/Albion's upcoming Hauptman looks to be pretty darn close as far as the hilt is concerned, but I want that type XVII blade from the original and Albion already makes a type XVII blade that would be almost perfect... Just...put....them...together.... PLEASE. **** Also, this beauty from the Wallace Collection Couldn't find a picture that includes the blade, but it looks pretty much like this: Aw, heck, there's a lot of swords at the wallace collection I'd like to have. ;D This one, too: And this one (Luckily A&A makes a replica with optional heat-blued furniture, if I really want it) www.armor.com/sword188.html

Do you have a closeup of the blade of the London one? I must say it looks like fullered XVIII on this picture, not XVII. XVII should have hexagonal cross section.

I'd like two things ; 1) More functionnal, sub-300$ chinese swords, especially Daos 2) European/American sabers and hangers from the 16th to 19th century that handle well, can cut and are sub-300 $.

Yeah seriously, there aren't a lot of good ol' American swords in the market! It would be cool if they had a functional Eagle Pommel Saber or the hunting sabers that revolutionary officers had!

Do you have a closeup of the blade of the London one? I must say it looks like fullered XVIII on this picture, not XVII. XVII should have hexagonal cross section. No, I don't have a close-up of the blade , but I did spend 45 minutes examining and sketching it in-person and I can assure you that it's hexagonal after the fuller. ;D I'd never been interested in swords with a hex cross-section until I saw that one. You could sense how strong the blade was, even if it wasn't very wide. It's very much like the blade on the Albion Langraf and Sempach (which also doesn't look very hexagonal in long shots), but a tiny bit slimmer at the base and not as laser-perfect in the lines. www.myarmoury.com/review_alb_lansem.html Another element that's not quite clear in the photos is the large side ring on the face of the guard closest to the viewer. It's there, but it's being seen straight-on. It's similar in size to the first one on this rapier (Also a weapon I wouldn't mine owning...) www.armor.com/custom903.htmlI second that luna ......... thats a beauty. Yea, I really liked that one. I've been kicking myself lately for not bringing a camera with me when I visited the WC and the British Museum and The Royal Armouries at the Tower, but I do have a whole bunch of sketches to remind me of my favorite pieces. That's part of the reason I haven't drawn any new sword designs since I got back; I was floored by seeing some historical pieces in-person and want to feel something like that excitement for any new designs I make. I'm not nearly there, lol. Reflingar: Thanks for that antique auctions link! Very interesting. +1

My face: I looked at a sword and I ji- ...never mind. And I told myself that I wouldn't buy anymore swords for awhile earlier this month. Let's see how long I can keep it up. Hah!
