That is a good way of looking at it. But our tangs do not taper that much but they taper a little. It would be more of taking it off the wood handle back. We will taper some. Only about 1/2 inch. SO that means 1/4" off each side. So you are not changing the tang thinckness, right. Just the wood. Sorry I was not 100% sure what you ment.

The more I think about it the more 1/2 inch maybe too much. I may just taper it 1/4 inch.

Just received my new Crusader from Generation2. My first Gen2 sword. I am very impressed - better than I expected. I found myself looking for flaws and I couldn't find any to complain about.
Nice start to a new forum.

Correct not the tang just the wood on the handle. The more I think about it the more 1/2 inch maybe too much. I may just taper it 1/4 inch. Sounds about right. If you started about two inches from the cross and gradually tapered back so that the grip wnds up about 1/8" narrower at the pommel it ought to look something like this: Left is roughly the shape of the current grip (very slight taper), center shows the areas to be shaved in orange, and right show roughly what you'd end up with. Looks good on paper, I can't wait to see what you guys ultimately come up with. P.S. Justiceohio, welcome aboard, and welcome to the "G2 Brotherhood". ;D

Clyde, if I may offer another recomendation to a particular gen2 sword.
I'd suggest the you give the ranger a bit of profile tapering. With the addition of profile taper, the sword will be a bit lighter and, in my opinion, will look lok one HELL of a cool sword, even more than it already is. Just a suggestion, take it any way you like.

Rammstein, Here is an excerpt from a post I made a couple of days ago on myArmoury, about this very subject on the Ranger blade. "The numbers I found interesting are thickness of blade just behind fuller on the ricasso .305", and the thickness of the blade at one inch before the tip .150". I believe that works out to a bit more than 50% distal taper. In profile it goes from 1.950" at the guard, to 1.650" at the beginning of the fuller (in 2.5 inches) then proceeds in a uniform taper to .900" at about 2 inches behind the tip, just before the radical tapering curve of the tip begins. My admittedly poor math skills lead me to see that as about a 40% profile taper? Anyone please feel free to correct my math." There you go. All you have to do is wish it and it happens! ;D

Hey shootermike. Just came back from fencing I'd say that tapering only to 2 in is inadequate if you ask me. I mean a real, lean, green, profile-tapering machine, narrowing to something like 1-1.5 in!

Hey dude! Back to geometry class for you! ;D It profile tapers from 1.65" to .9"...that's "point nine of an inch". The .9" was located two inches behind the tip. Just had to give you grief on that reading comprehension test.

not sure I understand what you mean, but I got a B in geometry And it was only a B cause I refused to do my homework. Hell, I have better things to do. Like cut myself with swords! (read my accident thread in general )

oh wow, I got it Never mind Yes, reading comprehension is not good for me, I'm a speed reader! Anyway, I was looking at the sword on imperialweapons and it just seemed a bit blade-obese, if you get what I mean. Could you post pictures of yours?

Patience, men. Patience. No post before it's time. These things have to be prepared "just so" or you spoil the seasoning. ;D
