aaaaaah yes that is indeed an outrageously beautiful sword that I fully believe moves and cuts as beautifully as she looks. on those "temper lines" I believe they are nothing of the sort. I have noticed them on my 1557 and my Antioch too and have mentioned them to Gus. he is of the opinion that they are not temper lines but a by-product of the method he uses to polish the swords. his heat treat is highly precise and done by an aeronautics heat treater with state-of-the-art technology resulting in a blade that is almost completely martinsite and almost no pearlite or retained austenite (spelling -blerg-) which means the crystal structure is extremely fine, tight, and homogenous leaving nothing to make temper lines with. hope this doesn't ruin your day, you've still got one of the best bastard swords on the market. ;D when you get right down to it this sword (and the rest of the Chimera line) is so very much a better value than two $300 swords it is just silly. I can't think of any four $300 swords that I would be as happy to own as one of these. yes, they are magic, by the way. at least they feel like it. +1 for a great review of a really awesome sword. I demand cutting video! even low-grade, grainy stuff would be ok.

It's so beautiful. Funny, I thought it'd be awesome with a green hilt too. Great minds think alike? lol. +1 for the good review. Probably will have a Bristol soon. Want to get the Venetian Bastard too, and then I'll have a matching pair! She's a beaut. Like I said before, yer makin' meh jealous, foo! Give it lots and lots of love!

Now I'm even more satisfied. Thank you so much for the clarification. They still look cool, though. when you get right down to it this sword (and the rest of the Chimera line) is so very much a better value than two $300 swords it is just silly. I can't think of any four $300 swords that I would be as happy to own as one of these. Me neither. yes, they are magic, by the way. at least they feel like it. +1 for a great review of a really awesome sword. They are indeed. Thanks, Tom. I demand cutting video! even low-grade, grainy stuff would be ok. Heh, well.... For one, I really have no video thing at all, and I rendered myself fairly broke from the activities and purchases of the last two months. My camera doesn't take video, my phone certainly doesn't, I don't even have a webcam or the like. "I would if I could, but I can't, so I haven't." And secondly--I said the WEAPON cuts better than anything else I've come across. To say nothing of the owner. Nobody wants to see my inappropriate tennis strokes misuse this gorgeous piece of deadly steel. It would be doing the sword the opposite of justice. I say go watch chennessfan's videos if you want to see an AT-1432 in action.

Hey Luna, can i go as far as asking you a comparison between your awesome BKS leaf blade and that venitian ? I really would like to know the high and low of AT and CF versus the BKS brothers. Feel free to say no man, but you got in hand two of the most interesting swords on the market IMO, so i'm very curious !

I'll shoot you a PM, but the comparison won't be very interesting: they are both great swords, but no matter how you slice it the more expensive Venetian Bastard Sword is on a bit higher level in just about every department. I love them both but this one has the edge, for sure.

If I had the two, it'd be like a European Daisho! Bwahahahahah!
*Ehem* Nice 69 Karma, by the way.

Hmmm...I like the idea of this "European Daisho" you speak of. But one would probably have to start with the shortsword first. This thing is so satisfying I can't really imagine going back to buy the Bristol now..

Yeah, I think you're right about that. I bet once I buy at $400+ katana, I won't go back to sub$300 monosteel ones. I may never get out of the sub$400 Euro area though, with Valiant Armoury churning out awesome stuff all the time... evil bastards try'na steal all my monies.
Biggest draw for me to the Signature line, instead of jumping for an actual Atrim, is the fact that I like my swords to be fully fitted... so I can sleep with them.
STOP LAUGHING! I HEARD THAT!
You can't sleep with a sword that has no scabbard... unless you like waking up with cuts, and the possibility of losing some body parts....
I'm trying to imagine how a European daisho would be worn, with all the belts and frogs and whatnot. Easiest way would be to just have the one-handed one on the waist, and the bigger one on your back, using some sort of sheath that lets you draw it from your back. Wouldn't be much of a daisho that way though. Hm.... You've any ideas, Mr. Illustrious Designer?

BuWAHahaHaHaHahahahaHAahAHAhaHAhahAHaaaaaa!
you have found the greatness that is ATrim swords and cannot go back to lower end swords now eh?
welcome to the club, it's a cool place to be but it's hard to enjoy that new sword smell as often as I would like here.
as for the Euro daisho why not wear the single hander on an integrated belt worn tight and the long sword on a belt with suspension so it dangles below? if you put the longsword belt on first the arming sword shouldn't be hard to strap on over the top.

The 1557 would make a great daisho with the 1432... Just like Tom's Antioch and austrian greatsword.

I am DYING to get three ATrims; a 1557 (duh) a 1432 (double duh) and a 1509. I plan on getting a low end custom from Odinblades as my next sword, then a few VA's, THEN I'm going for the AT's.... but that sure is a lot of scabbards to make, lol. ;D As for your problem, Dom, just send me a PM if you ever need any custom scabbards. I know, baltant slef advertising, but I'm cheap and trying to get some more of my work out there so it'll advertise itself, lol. Just a thought. GREAT review, Luna... If I weren't already gunning for a stock 1432 (which I actually prefer the looks of), I'd definitely have this beauty on my wish list. Somehow the shiny SS fittings and the blade just don't go together in my opinion... but I love all of the parts seperately. I think with a more traditional grip shape I would be much happier with it, actually, but I'm picky. ;D So I'm just going to get the normal 1432 and customize it to greatness myself... You know what they say, you want a job done right... Oh, crap, now I'm telling people NOT to commision stuff from me. I didn't mean it, really! +1 for a great read, my man. -Slayer

Hey thanks, Slayer! Yes, I do agree that the stock 1432 looks lovely in its own right and is a heckuva platform for custimization, but "there's no accounting for taste," as they say. ;D In-person, I can assure you that the fittings and blade on this sword go together wonderfully, (and they are both polished to a similar level) and the shape, etc is just the sort of thing I looking for in a 15th century sword. The stock cross on the standard AT-1432 I've seen on dozens of other swords and the pommel was just TOO "modern" and "machined" for my liking, but it's a great-looking piece, no doubt about it. I would love to have an AT-1557 to complete my "euro daisho"......Hmmm. But like Tom said, I think my tastes and my bank account have reached a place where there's going to be a lot of time between bouts of enjoying that "new sword smell" from now on. I suppose that's alright. ---- 'S far as suspension for such a pair matched blades (as long as we're all dreaming), I was thinking something along Tom's set-up, but kept hearing scabbard clacking together annoyingly in my mind... Maybe if the sword belt was integral to the scabbard of the short sword (as suggested) and at a more vertical angle than the longsword, which would hang on a two or three point suspension from the same belt? And along with that, some sort of elegant looking system that lashed the scabbards together as one. Then you could just strap on your daisho as a unit and go running about, but you could separate them if you want to spend quality time with one or the other. *shrug* Daydreams.

I could make something like that.... good idea! I prefer having the shortsword on my right hip and the longsword hanging from the left, but that sounds nice. Yeah, taste varies, lol. I LIKE the machined modern look of Atrims, so that's kind of a plus to me, I guess. Besides, I'm cheap! Keep up the reviews, and buy one of those 1557 soon so we can see it's greatness from a LUNAR perspective. (bad pun, sorry ). -Slayer

A great sword and great reviw Luna... the obligitory +1 on its way. I very nearly bought that very sword you have... I was concrned, like Odingaard, about the grip size... but was thinking the pommel shape would make up for it. Looking at the grip in your pic... I may have been right. Had I more faith it would have worked out for my hands... it would have been mine and you would have had to wait. Which may have allowed you to get that green grip... I'm with Bloodwraith... green makes everything better. It looks like an awesome sword... but I'm happy enough with my 1420 that I don't NEED a 1432... and my 1557 seems to go with my 1420 just fine. I do agree with you (and disagree with Slayer, sorry little buddy) that the Bristol Fittings look great on this sword.
