That is a beautiful sword. I've drooled over this one a few times while internet window shopping. That is my second favorite guard style and favorite grip style. Maybe I'll thin out the collection to make some money for this one.
Good review BTW.
+1 Karma for the grip pick. That really helps put the sword into size perspective for me.

Those grinding/polishing marks are known as the "dawg hamon" and are one of the small signature minutae of gus's swords. I like it, as I like evidence of how it was made or polished being shown; follows along with the whole performance part or tool look of gus's work. It can be quite pronounced or not. The chimera line is really nice. For just a few bucks more than a standard atrim you can get one with a more polished (albeit half production-made) hilt. Christian-fletcher-made grips are particularly nice; I have a maker's mark with a somewhat similar shaped grip and very similar weight and proportions, and the grip alone helps greatly to get an authoritative grip. How does this grip (especially with the hexagonalish cross-section) feel? If you get a chance to handle or cut, I'd love to see your answer

Thanks Sean, Gar and Margshus. @sean: Yea, I think considering you've got a 1557 AND a 1420 AND a Bristol...maybe it's alright that you let this one slide, lol. ;D I was gunning for that 1420 something fierce before I came along this baby. It's kind of nice that I finally have one of my dream swords that you don't already own, and taunt me with, lol. It's good to hear from you. chris J: Thanks for the extra info on the "dawg hamon." I like the name. As far as the grip goes, I think it's quite splendid. It feels much like a regular rectangular Gus Trim style grip as far as maintaining alignment and feel is concerned, but with the flats 'filled out' a bit more with the added center ridge so that it feels more like a comfortable oval in-hand. The tapering lets it sit "locked" solidly in both directions when you grab it, so your grip doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. The sword tracks very well and I'm sure the nice grip supports this. I just love it.
