Although I am certain he is smart enough to know what to do or not, it is my right to give whatever suggestion I think might help him stay out of trouble. Taking my suggestion into account, or not, is his personnal choice and I respect that, whatever his choice might be. And yes, I have answered a question that he didn't ask and I still stand by my answer. Chill out man, I haven't broken any forum rules, I just stepped on your personnal opinion, I guess... To answer the OP written question ; if you want a bladed self-defense weapon, I suggest something very ''tool-like''. Examples ; machetes, outdoor knives, kukri ... These could easily pass for a working tool, used commonly in the wild, and not look like a purely fighting/killing weapon. (Having scratches and other signs of wear and use might help too ... Hard to prove your kukri is for backyard work when its blade is still shiny...) Buy a metal detector. Then, as an accessory, buy a Lesche Digger from Predator Tools. Meant to be a garden trowel-like tool, but it's heat-treated, very pointy, and darned near indestructible. It would make a rather nasty dagger, IMO. I've used mine strictly for its intended purpose (I also own a metal detector), and I can attest to its sharpness and durability.

a big dog and a 12g shotgun. Hands down the only way to go. Or if you want to get creative, a can of wasp spray a mag lite( a BIG one) and a good old hickory axe handle. Spray in the face, blind them and beat them about the head and shoulders... a lot. OR... a moat, with sharks in it... with lazor beams on there heads.
