Yesterday I posted several lengthy posts on several different boards here. My post count was up to at least 37, as I have decided to become a regular member here. Today my post count is back to 15 and all my posts are gone. disappeared. does this happen often here? I have never had this happen on the forum I came here from or on any other forum for that matter. this is troubling as i'm wondering now if it's worth the effort to post here only to have my posts disappear. also on several occasions yesterday i composed posts and when i tried to submit them I got a "cannot connect to server" error thereby canceling out the time and effort i took to compose a posting. Yes, i know one should compose in a word processor to keep from losing the data, but that's not the point. the fact that this happens at all is very frustrating and, as i stated, has never happened to me on other forums. I would value the input of the regulars here on these ocurrences. I like this forum, like the people here. I'm just wondering if posting here is going to be an exercise in frustration. I know that Proboards provides the server support for the forum, in fact i went to their site and reported the problem of not being able to access the forum for most of the day today. while I was there I noticed a LOT of complaints from other forums (fora?) along the same or similar lines. It appears they provide their services for free and from what i have seen so far, it's worth every penny. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.
Jim

It does not happen often, But sometimes forums crash and there is not much you can do about it other than be glad they had a backup at least a few days ago. edit: I also lost a topic i started and need to repost it now, so alot of people are in the same boat as you

Maybe i've been lucky but i've been posting on forums for a long time and i've never had things happen like they just did here. There's no doubt in my mind that it's the free service from Proboards that screwed the pooch and didn't have a daily backup to restore things back to where they were. I went to their support site and read all the complaints and problems that other forums and websites are having with their "service" and it's amazing to me that this sort of thing hasn't happened here more often. I lost a lot more than one topic, i posted about 22 rather lengthy posts all done last night and if Proboards didn't back up that data on their servers, it's gone for good. no way i'm going to repost all that, and if servers are properly maintained and backed up, people's time and effort will not be lost in the case of a catastrophic event. yes indeed. I have seen a few glitches and once in a while we have had the board go down for a few hours, but I've never seen lost posts or a roll back to two days in the past like this time. I don't know what happened but whatever it was, was big and bad.

Tom; when I went over to the Proboards site to report our forum outage I saw that they were telling a lot of people from other forums that Proboards was doing maintenance on their system. Does that bring any suspicions to mind??.......does to me Jim

I agree that there backup service is pretty poor. I would think they would have at least backups daily if not every 12 hours or something like that .But while you did lose alot of posts just remember we all lost alot of posts so your not alone there

This is the first time in a very long time and it is always worthwhile to post on this forum, I expect a few hiccups and as hiccups go well this was a big one but such is the nature of online forums. It is possible it has happened on other forums they were just able to rectify the situation before it became overly apparent.

I confirm what Greywolf is talking about, I just noticed a bunch of posts (including one from me ) vanished from the current beer thread in the café ... That sucks.

I believe we had moved on to the Aheuser-Busch InBev conspiracy of evilly bad beer in the beer thread.

Down in the cafe we have a beer thread.
/index.cgi?action=display&board=forumcafe&thread=15116&page=1#253698
The sucker's at 11 pages but we lost a few posts with the forum glitch. Mostly about AB-InBev (world's largest brewing company) and how much most of their products do not resemble anything close to good beer.

As far as if it is worth it to keep posting here, my answer is yes.
I've never found a more friendly group of folks then here at SBG forums. If you are in to swords and whatnot, I could think of no better place to come and hang out and not have to worry about getting talked down to or asking a "stupid" question.
I lost a few posts, but I'm not to concerned about it. I hope you stay and hang out. I've learned a lot from these guys.

Thanks Greg. I certainly agree with you about the friendly folks here. Just wanted to be sure that crashes were not a common occurence here. It was just my bad luck to start posting on the day the servers crashed. Oh well, when that happens I just say "screwit" and press on. ;D
