We've all seen it. It is no news that the edges on the H/T line are not exactly the best anyone has ever seen.
Review after review (if you look at them) you'll see the same thing. Now, here is my question:
Most of these reviews are a year+ old, has there been a change in the meantime?
If not, is there a chance to contact the people of Hanwei about this, since it seems to me that if a sword is to be sharpened, it should be done so properly...

My GSOW has a beveled edge, not the most even or uniform bevel either. Got it about 2 months ago. If Hanwei doesnt know their euro edges need work, then they have the worst market research department ever. I expect it is not feasible for their forge to do a proper edge on their euro swords at the moment. Whether its training, equipment or facilities, I am sure someone has looked into the overall and end result on costs and decided not to do it. After all I bought the Tinker because it was <$200. If it were $50 more, I probably would have gone with the VA Longsword. It was a tough choice anyway.

I think Hankforker has it pretty much pegged. when I did my review of that bastard sword I sent an email to Hanwei telling them all the issues and providing a link to my review. I never heard back from them but I'm sure somebody saw it.

Hanwei's edges on their not Katana have sucked for quite some time. I HAVE noticed some improvement on the Hanwei/Tinker line... but its hit and miss. For example my EMSHS had a decent edge, and my 9th Century Viking sword was a BIT better then most of their euro offerings. However, my Fullered Bastered sword was outright dull and I have seen GSoW that were sharp and dull. Hit and miss.

My EMSHS came with a very poor edge. I doubt I will be buying any more Hanwei's unless they correct this. My VAs cut like razor blades. If they can do it why can't Hanwei?

It was a tough choice anyway. it's not a money issue as I understand it, because their katanas have decent edges (from what i've heard). The H/T line is obviously nice, but a little to plain for me. I love their Viking though and want the longsword as well, BUT, since I don't have the tools or experience needed to sharpen swords, I don't wanna buy them. So, my point being that there ARE other people out there like me, I simply don't see how Hanwei is just ignoring everyone... this is supposed to be a semi-practical, made-for-usage line too, so it beats me as to why Hanwei is closing their market so much (ya know, you can fool some random guy with a flashy sword, but what guy that's not gonna cut with it would buy a H/T?)

My H/T Viking came with a sort of good edge but its spotty, my H/T Longsword's edge is a bit better but because its such a slender profile its a bad cutter, great thruster but yeah.
I love the designs, thats what drew me and the steel is really nice, temper great, maybe the blunt versions are more neat then the sharps .......... But I want a good edge, cutting bottles is my recreation, my sport and my supplement to martial training ......... I'm not about to cut on a mans meat (which these edges would HOO HOO be just fine for) ........ I need them bottle ready not blood ready.
