On sharpening knifes, I use liquid soap instead of oil. Once done sharpening I rinse off the stone with water to clean the pores. Works amazingly well. I finally tried that with a straight razor I've been honing. (It was manufactured with a very badly designed secondary bevel.) I just used liquid dish soap on the whetstone and it did work well. it also made cleaning my stone after wards much easier. Thanks for the tip.
