Midori
Nice review on Munetoshi line, kindly clarify the meaning " Light Cutter" as Light in terms of weight or Light as in terms in usage limited for light cutting ?
Will this munetoshi Light Cutter T10 be able to use for tameshigiri practise ? What is the motohaba and sakihaba ?
Once again, Good review ! Thank you
Johan

Hyoujin: Hehe, thanks, sweetie! ^_^ Yeah, I like it more than I ever thought I could for a light sword. Shadowhowler: I know that feeling. I think it's probably become pretty apparent over the course of my reviews that I'm not really a fan of lightweight swords. I like to have a little weight behind what I'm swinging, you know? This one falls just a few ounces under my preferred weight though so it's allowed to slide. Johan: Thank you! The name 'Light Cutter' is really more referring to the weight of the sword, not what it can handle. We actually use this sword on traditional tatami mats on an almost weekly basis, so I know it can hold up to traditional use and practice. We have used it on a triple roll mat and it had no problems. We've also accidentally hit our cutting stands and the mat pegs with it, the asphalt and concrete where we cut, and its come out none the worse for wear. It may be able to take small green bamboo cores, but we haven't tested it on that yet. Motohaba is 1.2", sakihaba is 0.9". Thanks again!

Very nice Midori thanks. Some others already asked some more questions I was thinking, like is it "light" because of weight or intended target. Thickness of the blade, sori.... Would you recommend this for a first cutter, for half and whole tatami mats? I had to laugh about your comments on the butt tsuba, as I also really dislike that tsuba. I could see myself getting a different one, and maybe menuki as well, then send it off to one of our great maki guys here, to get rewrapped. New fittings, silk ito done correctly, and I think this would shape up to be an awesome sword. What do you think? Is there another sword in the Munetoshi line that would fit better for a first cutter, intended for tatami only targets, of traditional practice? Youre reviews have me looking into them on the SnA site. Found an interview with them and Paul here on SBG, too. Thanks, +1 to you BTW

Gman: Sori is half an inch; Thickness at habaki is 0.3" and thickness at kissaki is 0.2". As far as what the sword can handle and what I'd recommend it for, it's excellent for half mats and regular mats, though we have used it for triple rolls. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a first cutter or looking to expand their bladed arsenal who wants a nice blade but is on a budget.
Yeah, I really hate that type of tsuba and I have since before I knew anything about swords. I too would get a different one and different menuki...As far as rewrapping goes, there's no one I trust more than Kevin to rewrap my swords for me. He's already completed four of my swords, including my iaito and my two favorite cutters. I have another six projects I would like him to do when he gets a free moment...if he ever has one of those again! Since he's doing custom work for SnA now, he doesn't have much time for the million and a half things I have lined up for him, lol. And that's okay, because I still have to pick out koshirae for a lot of those projects. That's one of my favorite parts!
I think this sword has a lot of potential to turn into something really beautiful with the right koshirae and ito in the right set of hands. My problem would be deciding on which set of the many koshirae I've decided I'm in love with to put on this blade, though I'd probably go for a flower theme of some sort because of the saya color. With the black one, the possibilities are nearly endless.
Thank you again and glad you enjoyed!

I ended up ordering a different Tsuba for this one. I normally don't mind the "butt" tsuba but I already have one on another kat so I decided to get another for variety.

Avery: It does have a very striking hamon, and the heat treat is really good. We haven't been able to hurt ours yet! Also, Thank you for the welcome! I'm totally jazzed! ;D
Forsaken: Very cool. Mind if I ask what tsuba you're getting?

I would love to see some photos with the new tsuba. I'll be sure to post pics when I've made the switch. Should get the sword today and the tsuba sometime next week.

SwordGuy: The tsuba is 3/16ths of an inch thick. Hanwei's vary in thickness. If the Hanwei tsuba you get is too thin, you can always add more seppa or thicker ones. If it proves to be thicker than the original, you can get thinner seppa or remove the one on the tsuka end completely. The one on the habaki side should stay if possible.
Forsaken: Sweet! What do you think of the sword?

Just got it in today and so far I love it. Nice and light, feels almost like I'm holding a switch. The saya is absolutely gorgeous, I can't enough of that deep maroon metalflake color. Also, the tsuba looks much better on it than I thought it would. I'll probably still change it out, but it looks good as it is.

Hehe, it's always great when you like it as is, isn't it? I can't remember the last sword I bought like that.

Love the fittings. The simplicity is fantastic. Simply switching out the tsuba will give each sword a completely different look. I also love the redish/grey/brown saya.
I wish i could buy swords like this in the uk. i would be even poorer.

Thank you, misterawesomeavatarandusername! Er, I mean Mrfatbucket. X3 A change of the tsuba changes the personality of the sword completely for sure.
I was under the impression that you could still get a katana in the UK if you were an active member of a dojo? Did that change?

Thanks for the review! I just bought a lightweight cutter yesterday, along with a couple of others from swordNarmory. I hope the hamon on the one I receive looks as good as your pictures make it look! I also got one of the latest incarnations of the musashi bamboo... $74.98 for a differentially hardened 1060, how can you go wrong? I'll review that one, since I think no one has yet.
