I think the better question is why not? Hmmm... why would someone spend hundreds of dollars (if not thousands of dollar) on a war object, in a time of peace (at least in US), that is highly impractical to use for self defense? In addition there are plenty of "unreasonable restriction" to the ownership of swords in some countries, and downright illegal to own swords in other country; all this to discourage people from owning "deadly weapons" The answer to "why not" seems somewhat straightforward, the answer "why", at least to me, is more interesting to explore As for me two reasons: 1) I like swords, (don't really know, just like 'em) 2) I could afford one (well... barely)

Well, let's see, I now know that I can't find a Nihonto, and cut through gun barrels and tanks, guns are better self defense weapons, at least until they run out of bullets, I guess it was the hype and Romanticism, but my appetite for swords is still not diminished, I still want more, how many Katanas can one man use at one time I have several, yet I still want more, I have found out about all of the great Euro swords out there thanks to the wonderful forum ;D I find more of those I would like to have every day I do like bottle cutting, so there is some excitement when I get a new sword, will it be the best at cutting those milk jugs into thin slices? I guess I am just another forum member with SAS Hello, my name is Mike, I have not purchased a sword since August 2009, but when that new credit card gets here in the mail, I want a shot at the SBG Leaf Blade Bastard Sword if it's not too late

I've always had guns. I come from a gun family. But just recently I have become fascinated by swords. Me too, Zelder. I've had guns since I was 11, and wanted them before that. Swords are like short ranged guns that are much easier to field strip and don't run out of ammo. [grins] Plus.... I've always loved history, and find that fondness increasing as I get older. Until the last few decades, swords factored into virtually all history - at least the history that I'm interested in. I think Freud had some ideas about all this, but I hope I don't have to match his academic achievements to qualify myself to say that I think he was a nut. OH... and I only own three right now Valiant Armory AT304S Hanwei Hand and a Half Albrecht II (antiqued) Reproduction 1850 Foot Officers' Saber

.... Can't put it into words, really. They just speak to me. So, Glacier, how long have you heard these "voices", and they dont tell you to do bad things, do they? Ever since I saw that movie on TV sometime in the late 50's. The voices just mumble, though. Can't really understand them. But the swords, now THEY talk to me in terms I understand: CUT, SLICE, THRUST, BLOCK, DEFLECT, KILL. Stuff like that. At least the European ones do. I assume the jian is saying things like that, too, but I don't speak Chinese of any flavor, so I don't really know.

What is the appeal to most of you? You just like chopping water bottles or you like history? Is it self-defence? How many swords do you own? History and play both have a lot to do with my interests. In the end, simple objects and toys. I have some swords. Learning one well, whether in historical research or play is better time spent than too much diversity which may keep one from learning and appreciating one well.

Private ownership is abolished in the new version of European Union constitution, so the question is somewhat irrelevant. Just kidding. Actually in the Soviet EU the sword owns you.

I had to take mandatory Krabi krabon class back in primarly school ,in order to pass I have to pair up with another student and performed sword dance (similar to Muy Thai dance before the fight ) after the dance it would be free for all sword /stick fight. It was the first taste of Muy Thai/krabi krabon fight and I got hook and love the sword ever since because holding one (or two ) in my hand and feel that connection with my ancestors .Then all of this swords from other cultures come into my life and I find them to be as interesting as well .

Because guns are so hard to own here? THANKYOU!!!!!!! Blood kinda hit the nail on the head there, owning a gun in australia is a big nightmare, from every angle, hard to get a license, few types you can own lets just say if it has the words full, semi, pump, tactical or auto you cant own it (with semi auto pistols being the exceptiton to the rule). Few outlets, if you said to someone Kmart started selling guns they would think you were loopy. Painfull beauracracy and red tape at every junction. Which is why alot of people including myself dont bother starting up even if they have a passion for firearms. But even if I was in America swords would be my priority. Short answer I watched Willow and Conan when I seven, that sealed the deal for the love, my mum would say I was into them before I saw one. Maybe a genetic memory/disposition to them ....... I got no idea what my ancestors 40 generations back did
