Workin' on it... I'm just blowing up the text, enlarging the pic, yada yada yada, in MS Paint. The change should be made in about 30 seconds. -Slayer

Thanks Brenno. I finally feel vindicated! Umm... Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a sword-a-holic. I have... uhh... a bunch of sharps... and a few blunts and several sets of wasters and sparring swords. I collect weapons of several different types. I have had a sort of love affair with weaponry since I was a wee tot. Swords were a passion for a long time before I ever bought one. Then, after discovering this forum, it just kinda snowballed into the mass of sharp and shineys hanging around my place now. But I'm happy to say I finally think I have a handle on this disease. I haven't bought a sword all year long.

Not self defense. Get yourself a gun or, if wanting to be less obvious, a cane.
Because of the symbolism. Truth, justice, all of that.
Because of the beauty. Both the sword, and the arts that use them.
Because of the history. The grim purpose, the grim numbers, and a fascination with them.
But mostly, because they're cool.

Simple Answer: I have Asperger Syndrome, and swords are my special interest. Trust me, there are aspies out there with much stranger obsessions.
Not So Simple Answer: It's a bit hard to explain, but to me it's a matter of identity: I consider myself a swordsman by nature. That's not to say I'm violent, in fact I'm something of a pacifist. But I've always felt that I need a sword to feel complete.

"Its like a physical materialization of the stuff my dreams are made of..."
"To ask me why now would be like asking someone who likes to play hockey why they own a hockey stick. It's an essential part of my hobby and interests."
"Swords are like chips, Ya cant just have one!!!!!!!"
Guys, I couldn't have said it better myself.
"Umm... Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a sword-a-holic. I have... uhh... a bunch of sharps... and a few blunts and several sets of wasters and sparring swords."
*Room of 1500 plus people say in unison: "HI MIKE!"
Shootermike, you have more resolve than I do. I already bought one, with plans to buy AT LEAST six more.
But psssh, sword-o-holics go to meetings. I want no cure for my disease...though I'm certain my pocketbook would appreciate it. XD
I've loved swords for as long as I can remember. I love them for all their history, mythology and symbolism. I love the blades themselves. I love sword arts. I bought my first sword at fifteen and began to learn Spanish sabre fencing. At 22 I began studying Kashima Shinto Ryu iaido at dojo. And ever since I was a very young child I've loved world history. The sword played such a huge and vital role through the ages in making us who we are now. My fiancé and I own three Nihonto, two partial sets of Nihonto koshirae, four Mogito and over thirty production blades of varying price ranges and types, though most are katana. We do also have two beautiful rapiers and a Viking sword. I eat, breathe and sleep swords and am very fond of the little slices of history that we've been fortunate enough to come across, as well as every single one of our production blades, even the not-so-hot ones. At this point, I couldn't imagine not having swords in my life.
I am a sword junkie, and I am proud of it.

Wow! 19 days without a new sword purchase!! How do you do it? I have ordered at least one sword a week for the last month. One for me the next week I ordered one for my brother, then a second as a gift for someone else and just tonight I ordered four one for my dad, one for my sister, and a sword and wakizashi set for myself. Admittedly only the three were mine and I just placed the orders for the rest of them, still Swordnarmory must think I'm trying to outfit an army. ;D

It all began years ago when I saw the movie When Knighthood Was In Flower, aka The Sword and the Rose.
I've wanted a real sword ever since then, and then I purchased my first REAL sword and now I'm stuck. Can't put it into words, really. They just speak to me.
I now have three and half. The "half" is because I share one with my wife...a big, hefty zwiehander. The wife won't use anything else and it was, after all, a Christmas present to the both of us from friends.
*sigh* I need more.

i started to collect swords, cause i have a s***load of money - honestly Can you please tell us how to get s***loads of money? I've always had guns. I come from a gun family. But just recently I have become facinated by swords. I really want one.... or two or three. I cant decide where to begin. I also have a family to take care and cant justify buying one since in reality it'll probably just sit in my gun cabinet and rust. I'm trying to tell myself that maybe there is a pragmatic reason (self-defense) for having a sword and therefore I should get one.

Because guns are dishonorable gimmicks. Only real men own a sword and, ultimately, die by it.

Only real men own a sword. ...How about women? I collect them and am a classically trained iaidoka and fencer, and I'm certainly no man. ;D
