What is the appeal to most of you? You just like chopping water bottles or you like history? Is it self-defence? How many swords do you own?

I have a MA backgroud going back 40 yrs-as a kid the movies were a big influence Im sure. The back ground and the romance -the lone warrior defending his backyard against the heathen hordes of plastic, straw and cardboard.I presently have 4 with one on the way. They are at best,a work of art and when handled properly- by someone skilled,a dance as beautiful and as graceful as any ballet can be observed.

Well, since somebody already took my "shiny" response, I'll make due with "swords are just more fun than barbells."

For teh lulz!!!
Somebody had to do that...
now that that's over- uh, I have had an interest in Asian martial arts for a while now, and ever since I've had a chance to learn authentic Japanese sword arts, I've been ecstatic to get one. Soon... soon....

Because while I have the body and mind of a 31 year old man, I have the soul of a 10 year old boy.

I've been obsessed with the medieval madness since ... since... since forever i guess. IOt started with every medievalish/fantasy cartoon i could see, then got through the hobbit at 10 and the LOTR before 15, eat DnD stuff day and night for 15 years, LARPS, history lessons, history books, fantasy novels and movies, metal and medieval music got an Anduril wallhanger and then bang ! I was hooked. 15 swords on my walls later the sword craving is still going strong.
Its like a physical materialization of the stuff my dreams are made of...

One of the biggest reasons is this quote from John Norman's book called Gor Right itself -- that right of which you speak so reverently -- owes it's very existence to the sword. There is no justice until the sword creates it, establishes it, guarantees it, gives it substance and significance. First the sword, then government, then law, and then justice. John Norman - GOR I believe this totally! Also growing up I read a lot, because when I was in stories I was not at home! I came to love the freedom that a sword represented. The chivalry and adventure that the sword stood/stands for. Many a stick or plank ended up as my trusty sword, to slay the dragon and rescue the lady from the tower. Or to defend my king and country. Of coarse life's circumstances prevented me from getting a sword till I was 43 years old, but when I held my first real sword it all came back! The magic and wonder of the sword. And since my first sword I have been lucky enough to come into the possession of a sword from the 1500's. It blows my mind to think that that sword was made and used to establish, guarantee, and give substance and significance to justice. Not to cut water bottles in our back yards but to establish dynasties! I could go on and on. And now my boys are reading, not to escape from home. And they too are developing a love for swords, so the baton is being passed to another generation. Though cutting bottle in the back yard is reason enough to love swords! Hey, shiny was taken!

I have a love of history yes but thst's not why I collect. I suppose i've always wanted a sword since i was a kid, more for the romanticism than anything. The reason I BOUGHT my first sword was thoughts of self defence after a close call when two guys attacked me at home (and at the time i finally had money to buy one), but over the years the reasons evolved into actually wanting to learn swordsmanship and eventually different kinds of swordsmanship. To ask me why now would be like asking someone who likes to play hockey why they own a hockey stick. It's an essential part of my hobby and interests. As for how many I own... 9 sharps 2 blunts 2 Wallhangers and assorted axes, maces, spears ans suits of armor. with plenty more to come in the future I'd like a couple different examples of each style of sword....only 2 of my nine swords are at all similar...the rest are all different styles.

I honestly can't say what attracts me to swords. Maybe I'n just addicted to the feeling of 'em
I currently have four sharp, one blunt , two bare blades, and a whole drawer of spare parts.

I like them mostly for display, although I might get one to use occasionally. As far as "real" swords go, I have one now, I've ordered another one, and I want to get one more in the future. I only want a few though, because I find if I get more than three of something I usually don't appreciate what I have, and all I do is want more! (This has happened to me with things ranging from knives to replica fossils...)
