At any rate, the calender would be awesome if it were somewhat historical/educational. We tossed this idea around about a year ago about whether to do another 'babe calender' or to do something different. In all honesty, the babe calender thing seems like the cheap route. I proposed a 'blades around the world' type of theme, considering our members hail from all corners of this planet, we could have pics of people with all manner of swords in some real beautiful locals. If people were clever, we could even get more intricate with it. But i will save those ideas for when we're serious about doing this thing.

I remember that idea. I was quite in favor of it, particularly some of our European members. Those in the Americas and so on might be able to find some nice scenery, but there are no castle ruins or giant old anythings here. Well, sword-related, that is.

Yeah, I agree with James.
Sooo, best-cuts calender sounds very do-able. I mean, we've got a whole forum full of pics. Maybe if someone decided to head up another project they could put together a panel of judges to figure out which pics make it.
Problem is, finding someone who had time to do one.

Yep, that was the problem last time, too. If memory serves, slav pretty much spearheaded the original...and if we're going with "coolest cuts" pics and such...Tom K.'s got that thread of videos and what not...
Ample material here...just need somebody who feels like sifting through it all...

He has know-how to navigate the forum like nobody else. He could dig up enough pic for it in no time.

I think if we were going to do a new calender, that the photos should be new also. Pictures taken with the intention of them being put into a calender, not scavenging through review & cutting pics for ones that would suffice.
I would absolutely love to head up a new calender project, i have a ton of ideas that i think people would love, and i have my brother (who's a published photographer) who could lend his advice. In the end we could nominate X-amount of pics that are worthy of the new calender, then we can have a community vote on which 12 would be winners.
This way its not all on one person, everyone who wanted to contribute would be out snapping photos. With everyone doing a little lifting we keep the burden mutual, and that's good for community spirit too. I could organize all the polls and procedure as we go along,

I'm close. That may be the one, Brett...but my memory is fuzzy. We'll go with that one for now. Good job finding it, btw. Hey, BRETT should do it! Hmm, and then there's what James said.

I am a photographer (well 2nd job behind being an IT nerdie), so if anyone needs photos taken in South East QLD I can help out (and meet a few people in the mean time). I can always travel to other countries, but y'all be footing the bill I only saw that pic (of Mike) the other day when wandering through the review section and thought, cool idea for a pic...

Heck, only a small part of me thought it was in a review, and given the reviews Mike's given us...I wouldn't have known where to start looking. Guess coincidence favored you on this one. New pictures would probably be best, but as hard as it is to capture these things, having a few handy already would make for good back-up material.

Come on now, poor Mike caught enough flak for that expression way back when he first posted.
...You'll have to hit harder than that for him to feel it. ;D

Getting good action stills of cutting -- something out of the ordinary -- is not, as has been observed, easy. It takes some time to set up, and then you take a pile of pics (have plenty of memory cards for that digicam), and pick out the ones that, hopefully, stand out from the crowd. I've taken a pile of cutting stills, but of them all, the only one I would consider worth looking at (other than just to see a bunch of goofballs having fun) is this one, and it ain't all that great, though the subject is dear to my heart (my wife!). It would have been perfect had I caught the blade just exiting the jug with the chip just beginning its flight to freedom. The next shot in the series shows a massive jet of water heading for the atmosphere. Good luck with the project, guys!

That's a fine photo. I love the rainbow effect, good ol' sunlight! As always, good on your lady, too.

I'm completely down with a new project to collect new pictures for a calendar. how about this: since this is January we start by collecting photo's for a full month and put them all into one pile to vote from. then in February do the same, so you get the picture for Jan 2011 taken in Jan 2010. would be kinda cool to know the picture for January depicted January cutting. and so forth

Im up for stuff with calanders and quite capable of taking pictures of fast motion even when Im in the picture and I do believe I could qualify for the sexy part too lol jk I think we should avoid the sexy thing due to the utter lack of females and I dont think to many chicks are gunna want a "sexy" calander of guys with their swords out

OK. Sounds good so far. But let's not restrict the photos to cutting shots. Cool pics of people posing with swords is good too. Male or female! ;D
