Yeah, I saw that a while ago while idly perusing MyArmoury's forums one day. Amazing-looking sword, and pretty big to boot. Makes me wish that there were some more affordable examples of that type on the market.

I saw that when Nahan first posted it too. I love "Swiss Sabers" even though I know they aren't all Swiss. But it's a handy shorthand and most swordy people know what it means. This this morning while cruising through old auctions at Hermann Historica I stumbled onto this. Who can translate? I tried an online translator but all I got was translation of the first line to "in the style about 1550." It seems to say this is an original antique from circa 1550. But maybe it really says that it's an aged reproduction of that? The selling price seems to indicate the latter. Schweizer Degen
im Stil um 1550. Leicht geschwungene Rückenklinge mit zweischneidiger Spitze. Typisches, mehrspangiges Bügelgefäß, die Parierstangenenden mit Astknäufen. En suite gearbeiteter Astknauf, schnurgewickelte Hilze mit Lederbezug. Länge 109 cm. Qualitätvolle Sammleranfertigung aus geschmiedetem Stahl.

Degen is the equivalent of the word rapier used in Dutch/German countries but can sometimes also be used to point at a sword. So my try at translating would be:
Swiss Sword
In the style of 1550. Lightly curved backsword with double edged point. Typical , multiple bars baskethilt, the end of the crossguard bars are decorated with branch knots, matchin decorated hilt with cordwrap and leather covering. Length 109cm. Quality collectors product from forged steel.
Note though that I'm probably not 100% correct. And that they don't say anything about the age only that it's in the style of about 1550.

That A&A sword is certainly beautiful... and its obvious that some amazing care and craftsmenship went into making it... ...that said, not my kind of sword at all. I like my sabers more curved and single handed... I don't care for 2 handed sabers, and I feel the 'basket' would get in my way a bit.

Luka, my eyes have popped. I'd assume they're rolling around my desk somewhere. My seeing eye gecko is interpreting this message for me. That sword is simply stunning, and I want one (of course). Thank you for sharing. +1 my friend. -Midori Kurogami of Sword N Armory.

yet another beauty added to Nathan R.'s collection, which has to be the finest assembly of production complex hilts anywhere. I feel fortunate to own one that used to be part of his collection.

I admit that I hate that kind of sword, but I must also admit that this one does look very nice.

That is certainly one of the most beautiful swords I've ever seen. Nathan is certainly a lucky man.

This is obviously a design which people either love or don't like at all. Interesting.
