My norman is actually not whippy at all. I can strike the pommel forcefully and the blade doesn't vibrate like crazy. My VA longsword flexes at least twice as much. I can take the tip of the blade in my hand and bend the blade some. I think that it is just right. I feel very comfortable with the spring the blade has, because it is stiff enough not to wobble in my hands when I swing it, yet it isn't so stiff that it is in danger of breaking. Honestly, I really hate the amount of flex that my 304S has. I know that swords shouldn't be too stiff, but if I didn't know better I would think that it is a windlass. I completely understand where you are coming from Jonathan, the 304 opened my eyes to how flexible a good sword can be. it's funny how I thought it was really flexible and kinda wobbly but then the more experienced guys told me they thought it was rather stiff. really when you think about it a long sword can be made with the same geometry as an arming sword and while the arming sword is stiff the longsword will be pretty flexible. that extra length really makes a difference. if you don't like it, then you don't like it. that's ok but I'd suggest you stay away from the big XIIa and XIIIa swords because if they are well made they are going to be flexy and maybe more so than you like. you'd probably like the bigger XVIII variants. I've never been a big sword guy so I don't have to worry about it too much.

I like big swords, I just don't like them when they flop around like a fish out of water, so to speak.

Then get the stabby big swords...those shouldn´t be so floopy. Unless poorly made .

I have to handle the Norman when it comes to a shop were I buy. I would like to see the difference between it and the Viking and see why is it stiffer than Viking and it seems it is based on what you say about it. It does have a bit more profile taper but I bet it's not just that... But the bad thing when i handle the Norman is that I will probably have to buy it...

Jonathan, the H/T longsword is REALLY stiff... I think you'd like it much more than your 304S

I'm at the point now where I desperately want a H/T longsword because of that blade.....but I still can't get past the butt-ugly fittings! Urgh. The fittings on my 304S may be simple, but they do look NICE, and the veg-tanned cord-wrapped antique-brown grip is leaps and bounds above the drab grip on the H/T. And the edge is properly sharp and the blade handles magnificently. Sure, I'd like to have the extra grip length of the H/T, and like I said, I love the geometry of the blade on that one, but the 304S is an incredible sword and the overall package flat-out looks better. That, and it's 65 bucks cheaper than the H/T longsword. The H/T longsword does look like a superbly designed weapon, and I can't speak for Jonathan, but I for one would not be more satisfied with that purchase over my 304S. Ideally I'd like to have both, ;D but with no money in my sword fund, I would have to sell the 304S to get one, and there's no way I'd trade that sword out. Not because I don't think the H/T is as good--just that I'd hate not having my 304S, and I do doubt if the H/T is "as-good-plus-65-dollars" with that edge and those fittings. You know what would be killer? A H/T blade with sharpening, FITTINGS and a grip and scabbard from the Valient Armoury CSS. Like with the fittings and grip of a Malatesta: www.swordnation.com/catalog/txt_vamalatesta.html*Shivers* Mercy! That would be a helluva sword! But it would be absurd kinds of pricey, and I can't but any of these anyway. *Sigh* Oh, and the 304S is pretty stiff.

Good point about the Del Tin, Luka. It sounds like I would like it better, since in my mind, you might as well get the most power out of a two handed cutting sword as you can without it being too sluggish. I am pretty bad at following up with combos anyways, so swift swords don't give me the same benefits that they grant other users. Some day in the near future I am going to sharpen my Norman to bottle-cutting standards and see how it improves. I would like to hear your opinion on the similarities and differences between the viking and the norman. When I get a true longsword it will almost certainly be the HT longsword. I think of the VA longsword as more of a smaller XIIa greatsword than a fencing longsword. Yes, Lunaman, the fittings and grip on the 304S are very nice, although the fittings on my norman are a little too nice. The grip does leave something to be desired.

So I bought this sword today. Do I love it not sure yet! Grip not cord wrapped very cheap looking in all fairness, pommel and guard love it a bit shine for me but very nice, the blade I love the wide fuller,it is a wee bit whippy but not to bad, once I get the grip redone I think I may love this sword. Also I picked it up at KOA for only 200 bucks Ryan the owner as always was a gentleman and showed me so many swords even when he knew I only wanted to look at them not buy.

Yeh... the grip and fittings of the Hanwei Tinker line leave something to be desired... and even the edges on the one I've got could be a LOT better,a s well as the fit of the scabbard. That said, the bare bones of the Hanwei Tinker sword I have and the ones I have seen is VERY impresive. They DO beg to be costumized, they are great platforms for it.
