Perhaps once again... I don't know much about Jians. Though I did handle a viking sword once... Though a Jian is, I imagine, more like a Rapier. Although this news, to me, is never the less fantastic. I was wondering if 2 lbs was pushing it... But 2.3-2.5 lbs is fine by me, I hope.

2.2 is usually pretty good for a jian, though even a shuang (like lunaman posted) wouldn't reach 3lbs. Not really a rapier due to the way the blade is profiled and used, I mean look at sean's wife's jian that is definitely not a rapier and yet still only weighs 1 lb 10 oz. Light and fast but robust and authoritative is how you would describe the jian.

Yea, I'd say a jian is more akin to a rapier or smallsword in weight, but its emphasis is still on the cut; it's really light.... Aw, heck, I always bring everything back to movies-- just watch the scene I referenced. Ziyi Zhang uses a jian and Michelle Yeoh uses.....everything else, lol. ;D

Anyway, apropos of nothing: **UPDATE***I finished two more designs! I've also added them to the first post (Scroll down to see them there). Let me know what you think. These are kind of a matched pair with a nearly identical blades. I keep having this image in my brain of two figures facing off with these blades in-hand, I dunno. The overall dimensions were inspired by chenessfan's recent tactical sword , but the inspirations are from all over the place: Venetian swords, Warder swords, prince swords, El Cid's Tizona...etc. I had a lot of stuff floating through my head as I drew. What came out of the mess in my brain were these two. I usually have a film in mind when I draw a sword, not really one specific one this time, though I was kind of thinking of a better class of swords to have in the a certain vampire v. werewolf movie...lol. But there you go. ;D ;D

That fight scene is incredibly epic, probably one of my favourites of all time, the sheer skill of Michelle Yeoh is rather amazing to watch and that shuangshoujian she uses is my all time favourite design, it just looks so classy, yet understated and thoroughly lethal.

Thanks, guys. Bloodwraith: went for that Jin-Shi jian finally, did you? Nice. I like the new sketches--I didn't have as good lighting to take the photo as some of my other ones, but I like 'em. They're the first ones in a while I've done just for me.

I did, I figured since I was going to sell nyere I should replace her, but that isn't the blade I was talking about. I actually found a blade that fascinates me and I wanted to see if it was as good as it looks; See if you can guess which one took my fancy? Love, love love! that second blade, done by BKS it would be so damned sexy and the blade is my idea of a perfect sabre blade, the complex hilt is definitely that, amazing job.

you may pry, it set me back $90 AUD for the blade and $10 AUD for the postage, $100 AUD all up. I bought it because I love the blade shape and I like dragons and an awesome blades shape with a nicely carved handle is not often had at this price.

See if you can guess which one took my fancy? Interesting story behind the sword labelled under number UR-35, It's called a Batak, and the carvings on this sword tell a story (as told by Bill Marsh, a private collector and frequent poster in another forum I frequent): "In Batak mythology this represents a couple, well actually a brother and sister (twins) of a noble family. Before they were born a fortune teller foretold that they would have an incestuous relationship. Twins are considered magical in this culture anyhow because it is thought that they share a common soul. So twins are feared and respected. The parents thought that the best idea was to send them to separate ends of the kingdom and never let them know the other existed. Well, as you can imagine that did not happen. They grew up. They were inexorably drawn to each other across the distance. Not having an idea that they were twin brother and sister they, well, they got together. Oops! Later, they were walking through the forest when they heard a noise high in a tree. The boy climbed up to investigate. The girl waited below and finally when he did not come down, she climbed up to find him. He had been frozen into and become part of the tree. As she climbed up to him, she was also frozen. If you take another look at the handle, you will see the twins locked forever." Ancient versions of this sword were seen more as sceptres than swords, with the capaciity for magical abilities. This was achieved by a baptising of the blade through human sacrifice. Thought it would interest some of you into ethnographic things and esoterica in general. I don't at all condone human sacrifice, but find the history behind blades very interesting. This one is not so appealing what with the incest and the sacrifice (which definitely was NOT done with the UR-35. This was done ages ago when people still believed in their animist and symbolist tribal religions. predominant religions in the country now is Muslim and Hindu so human sacrifice, thankfully, did not continue to today)

Review, perhaps? And pepperskull, that is a wild story. I love learning the mythology behind the images on things like that, thanks for sharing.

Of course I will review count on it, though it wont win me any review points lol. That was a pretty cool story, mythology is sometimes sick and twisted, must be why I love it so much ;D

More like a Rapier then a Viking Sword, at any rate... tho really a Jian is its own thing, with a style all its oen in design and in use. Being untrained in how to use one... I tend to think of a Jian like a rapier, as that I has some understanding of... but that really is doing a diservice to the wepean and how it should be used.

BloodWriath: I was gonna say RK-13 as well... looking at the shape of the blade, I knew it had to be the one. Lunaman: The second sword pic that 'Wraith recomended BKS for... on the complex hilt, the part that looks like a dragonhead, that looks EXACTLY like a rapier they did... which, incidentaly, looks very much like a rapier I drew for one of my favorite D&D characters back in the day that I have thought about having Matt and Kerry make real. Small world. ;D

I have ideas in my head I just can't get them down on paper sufficiently, last time I emailed BKS I received no answer, probably used the wrong contact email address. There are too many beautiful swords around the place, ah well I am still young.
