Lunaman: The second sword pic that 'Wraith recomended BKS for... on the complex hilt, the part that looks like a dragonhead, that looks EXACTLY like a rapier they did... which, incidentaly, looks very much like a rapier I drew for one of my favorite D&D characters back in the day that I have thought about having Matt and Kerry make real. Small world. ;D Yea. But maybe not THAT small. I based that quillion pretty strongly on the crossguard of El Cid's "Tizona," which is one of the most famous and widely reproduced swords in the world: I had a toy replica when I was little tha I played with until it disintegrated. I'll never forget that crossguard and I'd know it anywhere. It stands to reason that Matt and Kerry probably had run into "Tizona" as well before making that rapier. But as for the drawing you made for yourself-- yea, that's pretty crazy that you came up with a similar design. Perhaps it was an instance of unconscious design intertextuality? That Tizona sword is all over the place, maybe it was an influence without you realizing it? Either that or you just know how to draw one helluvan iconic sword element.

No no... my drawing was a bit different... but dragon themed. When I saw Matt's rapier that was dragon themed... but looked like your drawing, I thought of him for making my rapier.

OH! I totally missed the word "dragon" in your first post! lol. I think I know what BKS rapier you are referring to, haha, you took a picture of it when you visited them, yes?
Or maybe I'm remembering the wolf one..... ;D ;D

Luna: 0 for 2. Haha, it certainly sounds cool, that's for sure. ;D I'd love to see what BKS could do with a few of these designs...

I'd love to see what BKS could do with these designs with a person willing to pay around $1000-$1200. I don't think we've ever seen the best of what BKS can do, I hope one day it happens, though there pattern welded stuff is exquisite.

Utilityslave has some of what I think falls under the best that BKS does... some of the most amazing blades they have made he snatched up... and then he never shares any pics or reviews with us, selfish bastard! You hear me Dave? Thats right... I just called you out!

Hehehe. I'm sure we all would love to see the goods Utilityslave snatched up. ;D ;D
I think I'd also like to get in touch with John Lundemo at some point concerning a couple of these... I'm really impressed by his work, and the prices don't seem as far out of reach as I had once assumed.

Yeah, Marc's Laird made Lundemos seem to be not that pricey... at least not for the sword you get for your money!!

Gah! I really want to see your designs made by John Lundemo now!
Aw... your drawings are extremely well done, as always, but I don't absolutely love your newer ones as I do some of your older ones. I want to say it's because I'd like more pointy-pointy, but it's not like the newer ones aren't pointy at all... so I'm not sure what it is. Must just not suit my tastes as well as your older ones. Oh, and it also might be because my nose does not agree with roses or any other kind of pollen excreting plants. Yeah, okay, the word I used makes it sounds even worse.... Again, your pictures are still great looking.
I'm not quite aware of the Tizona. I tried doing a little bit of google image searching, but I couldn't seem to find a clear, up-close pictures of the actual sword, and not a replica.

Yea, they kind of keep it under lock and key over there--Heck, I only had a crappy replica to go off of when I was remembering it, lol. However.....this next one might suit your fancy a bit more......

I have contracted a serious case of the "MUSTAHAVES" now, which will most likely lead to a more severe case of "GOTTAGETMESOMESSPARECASH" (man these Latin names are hard!) Thank you VERY much Luna!

YES! YES! YES! POINTY! ...I don't know why, but when I first started getting into swords I always scoffed at rapiers. It probably was because I'd only seen those ridiculous fencing foils, and thought THOSE we rapiers. It's like those funny little bendy 'jian' that they use in wushu. They're nothing like the real thing. Hahahah, makes me think of my little wushu class.... Those must've been made of aluminum or something... they made me laugh, but I'm not allowed to use them yet (hell, prob for a long time since I'm not focusing too well on it lately). Oh, look at me. I've become a sword snob! I would love to see that rapier made (and promptly arrive at my doorstep XD). Hell, that would be one helluva first custom commission sword for someone! *ehem* ME! ME! ME! Somebody pay for it and give it to me for free! Just kidding. Whoever can get that made first should really go do it! Git to it, maggots! Get me some nice pictures of something shiny and pointy! You really knew I'd like that one, didn't you. You psychic pirate, you. Then again, I guess it's a bit obvious when probably every post of mine in this thread has the word 'pointy' somewhere in it! Once again, you've put so much detail into it that it's almost appalling. And appalling as in "Stop making me feel bad about my bad drawing!" appalling. ;D I just noticed that the pictures had file names. Silly me. So it's safe to assume that the sword is somewhat influenced by a certain Inigo Montoya? I'm ashamed to admit it but I've never seen the entire movie, only youtube clips. Isn't that preposterous? Instead, I grew up watching kung fu movies, the Power Rangers, and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

You'd be correct, sir. +1. This is my imagining of Inigo Montoya's sword (the gold version in the movie was just a tad too guady for my tastes, I liked Westley's sword better ) I just tried to make a pointy-stabby sword that I liked that still still felt like a weapon and not just a fencing prop. I'm ashamed to admit it but I've never seen the entire movie, only youtube clips. Isn't that preposterous? Instead, I grew up watching kung fu movies, the Power Rangers, and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. I highly recommend watching the movie. You've probably seen the best of the sword stuff if you've watched videos on youtube, but they are so much better when put in context. Plus you can savor all of the hilarious dialogue. I LOVE that movie. Love it. ;D
