Yow....
You and have talked about our different methods of dsesigning in the past, Luna, but this one really gives us an example of the advantages of your method. The detail put into that handle....it is just gorgeous!
And I love how you followed the rose theme by putting "thorns" on the blade. Not only a wonderful design, but a great piece of art as well!
Have some friggin karma!

this was the drawing I originally sent to luna and asked him to draw me a jian design that I could approach Bren with, because this drawing is freakin' horrible (I am ashamed to put it in the same thread as luna's masterpieces); Ideally I'd love to have this design (Luna's) made by both Bren and John Lundemo at some point and see how they compare to each other, I think it would be interesting in the extreme

Hey, thanks, crockett! My set-up's low-tech, but it certainly works for me. But I gotta give credit where it's due--Bloodwraith came up with the idea, (jian dimensions, carved rose pommel, thorns on the blade) and my role was to put it all together and draw up my interpretation of his concept. This is the result. ---Ah, he beat me to it.

I LOVE it, except for the thorns... never was a fan of spikes comong out of the blades. I'm glad to see in Luna's design he scaled back on them to near the guard only, where they won't get in the way of use as much. Aside from the thorns I like the design a lot. I might have gone with just two symetrical 'thorn/spikes' on the riasco and then etched/dremeled in a rose along the length of the blade... I think that would loke very elegant. I'm not sure how Brenno would pull off the pommel... if this gets made that will be interesting to see.

It's designed as just a full purpleheart scale all the way to cover the "pommel" of the full tang, with the rose carved in relief into the pommel area, akin to how brenno carved the horseheads on his Rohan sword. Would be cool if it was made.

Id love to make it All your sketches have been excellent Zach. SH - I'd just do the grip in scales which would cover the pommel, and sculpt the rose into the wood scales.

Considering it is a rose it might look better done in jarrah or one of our aussie woods, will have to think more about it, but I really want to get this one made.

Well, whether it gets made or not...from one designer to another....we've got an artist with some talent here.
Maz was working on a scabbard when I went and visited him the other day and it was made of this wood that almost a dark violet in color. I cannot remember the name....but it was lovely. Give that color with some nice burls and you'd get a wonderful look.

**UPDATE***I finished another design! I've also added it to the first post (Scroll down to see it there). Let me know what you think. This one has first dibs by our good friend Bloodwraith. Sadly, I have fallen in love with this design. That is very beautiful.

As much as the Rose design is beautiful, yes I agree, I must say I have never had a thing for Chinese weaponry. Dao, Jian, Tiger Hooks, etc have never really done much for me as Katana and some Medievel European swords do.
Katanas and I have a love affair! LOL

Wow Thanks, Brendan. That means a lot to me. Thanks, Crockett, that's very nice of you to say. And there's a lot of woods that would look good on this, but I really like the way the one you mentioned sounds. Thanks, Seth. Perhaps you could get one made down the road? And yea, SonoftheHighlands, I know the feeling. I'm like that with viking swords and many katana, but I still appreciate the beauty of any well-made sword, even if it's not my personal preference. Thanks for looking, guys.

Respect for the sword and its warrior is an utmost importance. Don't get me wrong, I'm like you I just love weaponry, especially swords. It's just that I am obsessed and more in love with than others.
You ever drawn a Saxon inspired blade? I'm gonna shoot you a PM.

Thanks, Seth. Perhaps you could get one made down the road? I might be talking to Brendan soon, and funny enough, a Jian WAS on my agenda. I love Jians, I love roses. It seems like a fantastic design to me. Although I was sondering if you could modify it sometime for me? As to not steal/copy Bloodwraith. I will draw it first, then get you to remake it with your own touch and feel... I mean, if you don't mind. Or if you would prefer, draw a completely different one. ;D (Keep in mind though, if I get one done it will most likely be a tactical Jian. I imagine the steel by the pommel to be wider, and I also imagine it could have the wood scale cover this area too... Aw hell, I will send a drawing. )

Seth: you will want to redesign it because that one is specific to my own needs and has been draw representing a weight of 1.5 lbs which I would assume is waaaay too light for you.

Although it would feel nice, your right. I would want a little bit more mass... Maybe 2.5-3lbs. Maybe a different flower, just to be a bit different from you. ;D

3 lbs for a jian?! Are you insane?! do you know how heavy that would be? Unless you are thinking of a shuangshoujian?
