the one off ebay will most likely not be as good. it depends on what you want. if you just want something that looks cool then the ebay one is fine but ANY sword selling for $50 on ebay rings my alarms right away. far too risky for my tastes, I'd go for the first one.

Yeah, I thought the same really. Plus, the blade doesn't seem to have a hamon. When I asked, this is what I got. :/ Me: Hello, I'm looking at you B-1000 blades and I noticed that it says it is differentially clay temper hamon hardened to 65HRC, which should leave a hamon. Why does it not have one? The same thing goes for all the titanium swords. Seller: hello friend: the sword thread heat treatment so the sword blade is no hamon thanks ouyang o: bladesmith-oyj@hotmail.com What? ~_~

If you really must get that Titanium blade... which I personally advise against because I think its a gimmick sword and the red coating will come off with use... you can get the Global Gear one without paying the full price. Global Gear puts that and other swords on auction on Ebay all the time, and they normally sell for hundreds less then the MSRP. Look them up, watch for an auction you want, and pounce.

Yeah, and that's just one more good reason to stay away from most ebay sword sellers. or at least this one.
I think he was trying to say "through heat treatment" which means that he lied in the original ad. probably a mistake because he just reused a form to make the auction but I do not find that as any excuse.

Hey, take a look at the cost of shipping....more than double the auction price. Crazy.

The sword blade is no hamon. Seems pretty straight forward to me...

Well, I kinda sorta see a hamon on the ebay sword, not that it's a particularly clear one or any indicator of a REAL one, but I can see something that resembles the concept of a hamon... What throws me off is the 65 HRC. HRC only goes up to 66, and that's diamond. I don't think it's possible to get 1095 up to 65 HRC, if it is, I'd not make it a sword. Unless this is just the titanium coating that's 65 HRC? Even then... Stay away from "titanium" swords.

Sean- According to Paul's tests, the coating hasn't even gotten any significant scratches, even after a year of hard use, IIRC. Not to mention that the blade won't rust! I do like the GG version, but it's a bit over-priced for me. The EBay one is a big risk, though; I wouldn't go for it. HTH, Slayer

Well, does anyone know of anything similar they might recommend? I'm looking for something similar or a stright blade that has a different coloration than regular steel, will last a long time after being banged around, retain it's edge mostly, requires low maintenance, and be light in weight. Possibly within the 100$ to 500$ Price range.

well, for roughly $30 and $70 for shipping, I figured What the heck ! Titanium-coated 1095 steel, and despite the confusing email response, the description claims DH and it looks like some sort of hamon in the picture. I've always wanted something with a Musashi tsuba and the ito looks decently done. For $100, even if it's just a unique conversation piece, I think it's a pretty good deal. I'll give a full review when it arrives. :-)

Kauso,if you look in the review section here you will find a rewview by Paul that clearly shows a beautiful hamon on the global gear sword-there is/are two reviews of the same sword I cant recall who did the other-but again a photo shows a hamon.I myself plan on purchasing the GG.More for display than anything else(until I have a bottle collection again)lol
