Possible. I just know from my experience that I thought it was rediculously easy to cut even thick branches with my kat. With my longsword... not so much. I regularly batted bottles, etc until I got a hang of that drawing motion. The katana is actually a cheater, it makes you cut very well with even bad technique. Therefor I think kats are easier for newbies... if that's positive I don't know. Rather not.

Morning Good swordsmen. I ordered my Hanwei Ninjato yesterday. Now all I need are some black jammies in XL. Thank you everyone for all of your help.

awesome! I hope you love your new sword please shoot some video for us! In fact I am obligated to video a review for Kult of Athena. Hopefully it won't be one of those youtube, watch-this-guy-hurt-himself videos. I did order the wooden bokken to swing first before severing any body parts. Maybe i should get chainmail jammies.

black ninja mail jammies would be FULLY AWESOME! you would be much respected (and only a little laughed at) in my home and heart if you did that.
I am curious though, how you come to be obligated to do a review for KOA, that's pretty cool and has some interesting implications. . .
got a story to share with us?

I do product reviews online. I bought the sword and promised KOA that I would do one. this will be my first sword review. I have done many knife reviews.

You probably have a good review system to use by this point, but the SBG review template is a really nice set up for checking out things that would be good to cover when reviewing a sword, even though it's meant for a text-and-picture format rather than all-video.

It's a nice base, so to speak. Good luck with the review and congrats on your purchase!

Hey Charlz! ;D Sorry that I didn't get in here sooner, but you definitely made a good choice. That sword is actually on my wishlist as well, so I'll look forward to the review! You know, you could say that I'm fifty too.... but it would only be true if you slurred it a bit so that I'm 35 years younger. Congrats on your new sword, man! I'm sure that you'll love it... And if you have any more questions, feel free to ask! We're always happy to help... -Slayer

Very cool. What a great forum. Where does one learn to cut with a straight sword here. I checked and there are no schools around here that teach such things. Guess I am going to self teach. I learned statistics, firearms, painting , sculpting, dog training, plumbing, ect. on my own what's one more thing.

here's a very long thread on how to cut well. pay particular attention to posts by Shooter Mike and Ric Willy, those two guys are some of our best. some where in there Mike made and posted a vide about cutting with western swords that has become THE standard of training to cut with straight blades around here.
the thread: /index.cgi?board=cutting&action=display&thread=4307
good luck, have fun, be safe

^- What Tom said. Speaking of that, thanks for the reminder, Tom! I really need to read that thread... I'm pretty happy with my cutting ability, but I don't doubt that the tips in there will help a LOT. -Slayer

Welcome Charlz, as I have nothing else to add to the wisdom already given, I'll leave it at that.

Congratulations on your first sword. Already made arrangements for your second...yep, you've got it and you've got it bad. (But in a good way)

Haha, sounds just like me, but with money to spend. I'm glad you like the ninja-to, man! Keep in mind that the ninja-to is reletively tough, but really bad edge alignment WILL bend a DH blade. So, just be a tiny bit careful with it, and stop short of assaulting those pesky 4x4's. ;D The roninkatana is one of the toughest swords I've had the pleasure of wielding, and endured much that a sword should never be put through as far as cutting targets, but it won't be quite as good of a cutter as the Hanwei. The RK may be going out today, or if not, Monday... I'll keep you updated. ;D Looks like you've gotten a pretty good start to it, man! ;D Good luck... the bug only gets worse! ;D -Slayer

You might also want to try out Cheness Kaze Ko-Katana in the future. I think it looks cooler than Tenchi Ko-Katana. The tsuka is like in a katana but with a wakizashi blade, not too long, not too wide, just perfect. I'll be buying it for sure
