I'm 2 for 2 with CS.
First the GS. Now the Horsman's Basket Hilt (Schiavona without the cat's head pommel).
Where to start?...
The Scabbard.
- Leather with shiny steel hardware. You can really see the Windlass roots here. That said, I have no problem with this arrangement. The leather doesn't seem to affect my blades. Maybe it's a climate thing....
The Blade.
- Couldn't detect a distal taper with the eye.
- The three fullers on each side of the blade are dull, rough cut, and slightly uneven in terms of depth and width. Almost like the worker passed it on before completing the job. Oddly enough, the length of all six fullers are even.
- The blade came sharpened (half of the blade, not the full length like the Grosse Messer). Unfortionately there is a pronounced secondary bevel. No problemo. I can fix that when I get some time.
The Pommel.
- Scent Stopper with a nut.
- My only issue here is the pommel could be slightly larger to balance the blade and stop the hand from sliding.
The Grip.
- Yup. Same with wire wrap. This is a grippy grip, for sure. A bit too abrasive for my soft desk jockey hands, but definitely the best part of this piece.
The Balance.
- Cuts with authority, but light enough to control the thrust. This is definitely a bashing blade!
Structural Integrity.
- Nut, not peened. Smacked my pell until I couldn't grip the sword and still no rattle. I call it structurally sound.
And the best part is....
I bought it from Special Projects for....
99.95 USD.
Yup. 99.95 USD!
