They seem to have a lot of medieval and renaissance style single handed cutting swords, do you have any opinions on any of them? (as far as handling, quality, etc...) Also, are their swords difficult to sharpen with a plain sharpening stone?

Well, if you can manage to get your hands on one of their recently discontinued type XIV I think that would be the best they have to offer. failing that I'd say just look through the reviews and pick one you like as most of their single handers are pretty good. not great but for the price, pretty good.
as for sharpening, I'd start with a file and then move to a stone simply because of the amount of steel needing removal, but no they aren't hard to sharpen at all. I like their Late Spanish arming sword though it isn't spanish as it turns out but it is a fairly faithful recreation of a real historical sword. check the review index and you'll find lots of reviews on Windlass. most of them are a little heavy but not too bad.

My favorite Windlass swords are the XIV Arming Sword and The Ulfberht.

Hi Xerxes. If you mean whether Windlass blades are easy to 'touch up' i.e. they've already been sharpened and you're simply getting the sharpness back, then yes, they take a reasonable effort (it isn't rediculously easy) but my Windlass Erbach has a nicely touched up edge thanks to my whetstone. Hope this helps

When I went to KoA the Cruciform Sword stuck out for its handling. The POB was WAAAAY back on the blade. And it was pretty cheap, too.

yeah I did see Mike's video but as Bloodwraith said that doesn't mean it will cut like that for anyone else. I hear there's a private video floating around showing Mike cutting through a double roll of tatami with a plastic spork. the spork appearently breaks in the cut but hey come on he IS still human.

OH COME ONE! THAT'S JUST SILLY!!! Actually, it was a Swiss Army knife... you know, the can opener part. And it still works fine. But seriously, the Windlass Ulfberht and Type XIV are both really good cutters if sharpened properly. Anyone would do well with them if they just maintain edge alignment.

The Windlass Munich sword has caught my eye recently, the stats on it sound good but I haven't heard of anyone who has handled it.

I would second the Type XIV, after having it for a month I still can't get over what good value it is for the money!

Mike, what brand of Swiss Army Knife can opener do you find cuts the best? do we HAVE to get the real deal from the Swiss Army, or will any decent quality knock-off due because of the amazing proportions built into the type?

I only use the ones made by Gus Trim. You know... he had the original contract to make all the blades for Victorinox. ;D

A gun is too easy and shooter wouldn't be caught dead with an SLO
