My very understanding and patient wife asked a question that left me a little dumbfounded. I still don't know what to do to rectify it properly. Christmas has exploded in my home, with decorations everywhere and in the midst of it is the stark contrast of lovely, shiny steel in the form of my sword and dagger hanging on my wall for all to see.
So I have been informed to either remove them because they are too "harsh" or decorate them to make them more festive. So, I wondered what my fellow forumites do to make their stabby-cutties more festive and less stark. Pictures are welcome!

I'm of the mind that since they are swords, not furniture (or walls) that they ARE the decoration, but I also understand the underpinnings of connubial bliss and some things must be conceded in order to keep the home happy.
Hang'm in the bedroom...until the season's done, that is. You'd be honoring your wife's wishes while still being able to keep an eye, two if you can spare'm, on your prized possessions.

Try hanging Christmas tree ornaments on the guards! lol... That's assuming that they're euros, of course. Of maybe you could rearrange them to spellout 'Merry Christmas' on the wall, but since none of us except ShootMike have nough swords to do that, then you'd just have to buy more to fill in the gaps! ;D I mean, Me-r- Chri--m-- isn't all that festive, you know. My perfect plan... unveiled. -Slayer

Like Ebon... I hang my swords on a wall so they act as decoration... while they are resting, not in use as swords. I don't take down my pictures, move my mirrors, or otherwise alter any of the decor in my home when I decorate it for christmas, haloween, or any other holliday... so why would I tak down my swords... or, even worse, hang tinsle or some such from them??? Lucky for me, my wife digs the swords and likes them hanging around... and christmas happens to also be her birthday so, christmas is big around here.

Nice. Mine hang, as you both said, as decorations of their own when not in use. However, she goes through the trouble of hiding everything non-Christmas in our rooms. I guess I'll have to take Ebon's suggestion and stick 'em in the bedroom...

I don't hang my beauties anywhere... no... I keep them in their scabbard in a chest in my bedroom, just in case someone tries to get smart

My birthday is two days after Christmas and everyone treats it like any other day, so I do as well. Can't recall how many birthdays I've spent driving my kids back home to Va before I could go home myself. Oh joy....so birthdays tend to be less than stellar for me. My wife remembers, which was a first for me- I'm used to people forgetting. Hell, even my parents forgot one year.

Yup... my birthday is Dec. 19th, my fathers is Dec. 22, and my wife is a christmas baby... so my family knows the sorrow of a christmas season birthday.

LOL, Sean. You sure got the pick of the litter as far as B-Days go, didn't you? My dad's is Dec. 12th, so I kind of get that. We try to make it a big deal, though, and don't decorate or get the tree until a few days after his birthday. -Slayer

Chuck: wrap them in garlands, Christmas lights and tree ornaments! And show us pictures! Come on! In fact, this gave me an idea: Christmas swords this year!
p.s.: this thread made me realize I didn't know the English word for "guirlandes": my translator gives me "garlands", is that correct?
Hurray for Christmas swords!

Demonskull, that is brilliant! Or.... Get 'em re-hilted in oxblood and tie green ribbons around them. Or just re-hilt them in green and get an enemy to provide the requisite festive red. I mean, what?.....

I love the stocking suggestion, that is brilliant. my wife and I DO take down our noral decorations and put up new holiday themed deco for not only yule/new years, but hallowe'en, and easter too. so I am accustomed to changing decorations. my swords do not act as decoration in my house I keep them handy so I can carry them and fondle them and enjoy ther presence. I often carry one around the house with me all day no matter what room I'm in it's there close to me. my family hardly seems to notice anymore.
seriously, I think I would move it into the bedroom. seems like the best compromise for serenity in the home.

For me, an unhappy wife = a sword through my belly. She likes the sharp, pointy things for their cutting and stabbing ability.

If you are Christian, and primarily have European cruciform-hilted swords, just rationalize it as representing a crucifix, and the honed edge of truth. Or something like that Maybe hand a cross or two near them to make the connection. Otherwise, one idea is to twine good-looking (if such exists) artificial vines around them. Maybe the kind with holly berries.
