When I was much younger, I had the habit of carrying with me a rather long-bladed, cutlass style knife while checking my rabbit snares. One morning after a light snow I found tracks on one of my trap lines and followed them to a lean-to in a dense spruce bush area. I called out as I approached but before I got an answer I heard a noise behind me and as I spun I drew the blade just in time to see a crazy old man coming at me with a woodsman axe over his head. I parried his blow and he lost grip on the axe and it skittered across the snow and rocks. His swing caused him to stagger past me and he drew a blade as he circled to come at me again. I crouched low, and mirrored is crescent approach. He lunged, I spun to the right. His blade grazed my jacket and tore a 6 inch gash in rucksack. He was close enough I could smell his rancid breath and I brought my glistening steel down across the back of his left arm. My attempt to wound and slow him down only enraged him and his mouth frothed as he screamed in maniacal rage and tried to skewer me straight on. This time I caught his forearm under my own and plunged my blade into his side. It was a death blow, and by the sudden look in his eyes he knew it too. He stilled, staring into my face with his teeth gritted, and slowly sank.... ... then i woke up.

I've never been in a fight to the death...which is a good thing because if I had, there's a small chance I wouldn't be here chatting with you fine fellows and ladies.
Been in my fair share of brawls- found them to be more exciting and adrenaline-charged than I thought they'd be. Fun too, in a way.
I have always fought these sorts of duels in my dreams, against the most legendary of knights or swordsmen. Who wins? I never can tell.

I've always thought duels should be fought between men in their underwear wielding tube socks full of horse manure. When I was a child, I had a recurring dream of being chased by a giant (the one from the little rascals television series ;D). I was armed with a butter knife and when he caught me I'd plunge the knife into his belly repeatedly to find it was like gelatin which only caused him to laugh. That laugh had a quality that haunts me to this day.

I spend hours training each week for something I hope I never have to use in a life or death situation.

I've been in fistfights, and a few knife fights, and I pray I'm never in an actual swordfight.... That I'm still alive and breathing after all that is one of those things I'm very thankful for. Given a choice, I will always walk away or try to talk my way out of a fight. I have had to fire in military service, it is NOT a fond memory.

If you live in the woods around crazy vets that are angry with you because you want to live there and some rich guy makes a road through your yard with a bulldozer and you block the road so they can't use it you might end up getting blown up, machine gunned or maybe even chopped with a sword or machette'd. Which in regards to that you might have to use your sword or the appropriate tool. wooh I think I have post traumatic stress..

;D Kinda like "never drink tequila with Filipino hookers". Tell me about it. We have to ask Avery, it is (or used to be) in that box under all his posts. And knowing Avery he probably can't tell all because of the family nature of the board.
