This sword is actually not bad for the money. I have one stowed away in the garage for a Type XIV project someday that I got at their clearance sale for $99.00.
The pommel is screw on, but it can be secured easily with Loctite - this is good in that it can easily be serviced or broken down later. The wire wrap is hit or miss, but if its not solid (like with some Windlass wire wraps), it can be easily unwound and rewrapped with leather. It is nice as it comes, but it would be a good blade to upgrade later.
I'd say pick one up. You can always get what you paid for it later...

thanks Odingaard. I've been looking at that one for a long time and just never got the gumption to buy it. I really like the style though.

I thought about grabbing one.... likely at the same clearence sale Odingaurd was at. Decided against it tho... I kinda liked it... but not quite enough to grab it.

I hear you Sean, I always aproach Windlass with caution. the ones they have that are good are wonderful but the ones that aren't, aren't much of any good at all. I do love the variety Windlass has I just wish they would hold to a slightly higher standard. if they just made all their swords to the same standard as their best ones they would be an awesome company.

Get it! I think somebody on the forum got one and turned it into a really cool project blade. Maybe keep the guard and add a wheel pommel? Could be pretty dang cool...
Edit: just realized this is my 200th post...

It weighs in at just shy of 3 pounds according to KoA; this is a concern as it would probably just feel dead in the hand. With a POB at 3" though, is this not the case?

well there's a lot more to how it will handle than length weight and POB I have had swords that have very similar weight and POB handle very different, one being much faster than the other.
I have never handled this one but considering the profile taper I expect a lot of the mass to be centered near the hilt and that should help liven up the handling. I do worry that this is a lower priced Windlass and that means little to no distal taper in most cases.
hard to say not having handled it.

Tom, I asked KoA and it turns out there is a taper! It's slight, but the sword goes from 4.4 mm to 3.7 mm.
