I am trying to ship a sword from my home town to Indonisia.
once I finally got the sword boxed up to meet length restriction I took it in to the post office and put it on the counter. the lady got on her computer put in the address and started filling in info. she asked me what was in it I told her "a sword" she looked at her computer and said "that's not on the list." we spent half an hour trying to figure out what category would take a sword. long story short (TOO LATE) their computers don't want to take the box but the post master doesn't see any laws against shipping it
if anyone here has shipped a sword to Indonesia please tell me what service you used, what info you gave them and anything else that would help me get this sword from here to there.
please no speculation in this thread, I need to get this thing moving soon and don't want to spend time reading guesses. if you haven't shipped to Indonesia just sit back read the thread and enjoy the ride but remember you are only a passenger here.
thank you all
Tom

ok guys here's the story:
I had gone round and round with my local Post Office. first the box was too long so I re-packed it to make it shorter. Indonesia limits boxes to 46 inches and has all sorts of crazy laws. I tried UPS and FEDEX too but nobody wanted to take my box. every time I asked I was told there was no law against it but there was also no way to do it. huh?!?!?!?
finally I called a customer help line the Post Office had listed on the web. they did a bunch of research and evetually told me for sure that it was legal to ship but the system wasn't set up to take it properly. I had to use Global Ex Gauranteed in order to be allowed a box long enough for the the sword to fit in but the problem with that is I had to pick from a category to describe contents and "SWORD" is not a category. So I had to talk to our local Post Master. her and I went throught the entire list and eventually decided that we could call it "sports equipment".
Richard told me how he gets it to work and it was very similar to what the Post Master and I came up with but offers a few different options so now I have two approaches to use today at the Post office.

I was told by a local knife collector that he always went with "decorative wall hanging" but I don't think he ever shipped to Indonesia. At least you have some options now. (*now how the *##@@####****######@@@@ do I get around those VA paraphernalia laws for items made of hemp cord*)
