I have always liked basket-hilted swords.....That's a very nice looking weapon Luka.

I think it looks lousy. You should get rid of it. I can take it off your hands, want my address? Nice looking hunk of weaponry there, I've got a little sword envy.

I really like that one, its a great job, and leave it black just a little clean up its a nice little campaign blade ...... did I say little, cause it look pretty big in the hand.

I'm not a fan of basket hilts either, but that looks really good. If you hadn't told me I never would have known that the parts weren't originally designed to go together. I may have to rethink that whole "not liking baskethilts" thing now.

That came out looking great, congratulations on winding up with a singular looking weapon.
The black iron basket makes it look like an old campaigners sword.

Thanks guys! I wasn't sure if you all are going to like it or not. Btw, this is the original Windlass sword whose blade I used: www.hankreinhardt.com/Sale/Swords/Swords%20216.htmIt is quite a beast, I think that it was 102cm long with original fittings and about 3lb5oz. I'll have to measure it now, but I don't have a good scale. I was going for a rough campaign look, I just have to get rid of that powder that comes out of the Windlass scabbard and makes the blade look dirty. Oh, yes, I forgot to say, the original grip was slippery and it is much more comfortable now for use.

How does it handle? From my understanding, the blade from the Sword of Granson was no lightweight.

Yes, it's no lightweight, 1.5kg (3lb5oz?) in original form, I don't know what it is now but probably similar. It really could use some distal taper. But as basket keeps quite a lot of weight around your hand it is quite wieldable for that weight. I haven't cut with it since it got a basket but it was a mighty cutter before and I don't think that has changed.

I hope I will but it might take some time... I'm studying and I come home only for weekends... And the weather is not nice also. But sooner or later I will take some videos of it and other swords.

I've been admiring this sword over at MyArmoury. It is a beauty. I like the work that Alojz Krišto has done on this baskethilt !! As others have said, it has that serious, no nonsense "campaign" look. I like it. + 1 2 U

That's two really good looking baskethilts I've seen, just today- but both are custom jobs.

Most nice baskethilts you will see will be custom jobs. There is really not much nice production baskethilts and most of production ones are from the '45 uprising, very few 17th century ones.

yeah that sword is very nice. I'd call it "business-like" but you have to remember when I say that, that I know its business is killing (and business is GOOD![/end major payen voice])
yup that is a beast of a sword, I think I'm scared a little all the way out here.
in short, I like it. well done!

Great project Luka. I'm not really a sword snob like Tom... well... OK maybe a little. And I like it. You so seldom see a "service grade" baskethilt sword that it's nice to see a ribbon basket. And the reuse of the Granson blade turned a "Meh... Windlass..." sword into something special.
