I saw this knife: www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BU325 and was wondering if anyone else has bought one. if so, how does it handle? does it come sharp, hows it's edge retention, basically a mini review. i need something to replace that little Gerber Vallotton i carry around the house (plastic handle, assisted opening, impractical/weak locking mechanism, what more can i say?) so if anyone could help that'd be great

Get the Kershaw, they are better than the Bucks by a long shot, I gave up on the assistd opening as I can open them faster by the flick motion...Sanmarc.

My votes, if you can scrape up the cash Cold Steel Voyager series or Spyderco Endura.

I can't see what that is, but it has been my limited experience with knives that you get what you pay for; this applies to pretty much every consumable you can think of.

My votes, if you can scrape up the cash Cold Steel Voyager series or Spyderco Endura. I agree with LP, you are going to spend a little bit more but get a better blade with one of these two models. Most of the Bucks, Kershaws, and Gerbers these days are using a 440A or a plain 440 blade. This will give you a basic edge that you would have to sharpen more often than a steel with a lil more carbon content. You want to go with anything AUS 6 and up. Steels to look for are AUS6, AUS8, VG10, and if you want to spend a little more go with a S30V or a 154CM Blade. A few of my favs are CRKT, Spyderco, Benchmade, Cold Steel, and SOG. Hope that helps man.

At least my faithful 503T is US made.

Dang good knife that was, too bad it disappeared out of my work locker one day.... New "Old Timer" knives are all made in China. A lot of knife makers have gone down in quality in recent years. But a knife is something even my broke arse will pay top dollar for. I hate throwing good money after bad on cheap knives.

Checked out the CS voyager, kinda turned off by the lock back type locking mechanism. I would like to get a Spyderco Delica, but do not have the funds right now. One more thing, does anyone have an opinion on Tool Logic brand credit card sized multitools? specifically this model: www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=TLT1BCC Im not looking for a workhouse, just something so i'll have a knife and other tools when i need them. if not that model, any others? i've heard good about the ice models and the original companion models.

Skip the business card and go for a Leatherman or similar multi-tool. You want actual usable tools right? Not just "let me pretty myself up before the meeting" tools.

i've considered leatherman tools, but that would draw too much attention where i live(in southern california, half the people would think it's a gun, a fourth would think a knife, and the other fourth would not care what it is but still not like it/be scared of it.) Assuming you meant keep it on my belt. i thought i would just buy one(the credit card tool) and stick it in my wallet in case i needed a screwdriver or if i needed to cut something small.

I'm spoiled with living in an area where carrying things such as multi-tools and hunting knives openly is actually pretty common.

Most Bucks, and multi-tools do fall into the "pocket knife" category and are legal in most of the US. However, I have seen many people react badly and needlessly to person carrying a pocket knife. I call it a flaw of the modern world that so many in industrialized countries are so removed from the process of "doing for themselves" so to speak, that what was once considered a simple tool and nothing more is now, a deadly freakin' weapon.
Heck, I've mentioned in other threads I'm anything but a rich man. If my family wants something enough, we build it, make it, or create it ourselves. I'm not the only person on SBG with that attitude, or else why do we have all these DIY and Tutorial threads all over the place. Anyway, as for carrying a multi-tool on one's belt, it's legal, just tuck in your shirt and nobody can assume it's anything else. Even if they do and the cops show up, you'll probably get an apology as they try to find a reason ticket the person who called them in the first place.
