The Other day I found myself in a bar that is a very unlikely place for me. It was actually a Karaoke bar with a live band. Now for most people who dont know me I dont drink at bars. So as the night went on friends of mine went up and sang lots of stuff. A friend of mine asked me to sing and I did not know what to sing... I semprinied out at first and decided to actually have a few drinks. Feeling calm I asked the band if they knew a "Girl from the north country"-Bob Dylan One guy did and he did the Guitar work while I did weak vocals. I in an attempt to look good I dedicated to song to a girl from work I was sweet on.... The bar owner laughed because he said he had never heard the song requested, nor did he know of the song. After the song I threw up witch the girl laughed at, but I did get props for dedicating the song. I did however get allot of crap from a few older guys in the bar one guy asked "how a kid like me knew that music?"... Another guy said "he must have heard it from his dad". I stated that my Dad Hated Dylan... They laughed and we ended up leaving, but not after the guy who played the guitar for me asked how I could sound like Dylan? I replied that it was not that hard since early on he was never a great singer, but the message is what people loved. He was just a guy singing about what he felt and saw.... Anyway I had a debate in the car home people asking me why I liked Dylan. I simply replied because the music "Speaks to me". You can imagine the odd looks, but I listen to his music and as he said in Tangled up in blue "Each on of those words rang true and glowed like burning coal. Pouring of of every page Like they were written in my soul, but from me to you". Allot of my friends spouted that Dylan suck and that he would have never made it today in today's music. I agreed in saying that not much of the music today speaks to me. People don't even know the meaning of the music they listen to. Begs the question what Inspires you guys? Why? I would like to know.... Anyway I have stated to learn guitar so I can play some Dylan. Maybe his words can help me find my own

Forgot one of my favorites.... I dont think I can find any modern music that can stack up to this:
Even Dylan said he cannot write stuff like that anymore and dared people to try....

METAL! All things metal: music, motorcycles (horses made of steel), leather pants and swords. To me all these things in a way fall under the same category. And thats mostly what goes through my head all the time. I am inspired by the confidence of true metal bands, wishing i could be more like them.

*idly wonders what the topic has to do with swords, but is really too sleepy to care*
Well, I'm a musical omnivore. I can and will listen to pretty much anything except death metal and the more depressing gothic rock/post punk type stuff. Mostly, as long as I find a piece of music uplifting and/or stimulating I don't care what style it is.

I am inspired by differenct kinds of music, such as power metal, folk music (European), celtic music, and classical music. I am inspired most of all by good books.

My wife inspires me. I am a jadded, cynical person... but she is hopeful, optimistic, she always wants to see the good in people... she is just the most giving, wonderful person I have ever met. She makes me want to be a better man.

Sweet post. I was raised on Dylan, and still perform a lot of his songs, including Girl from the North Country. Hmmm, what inspires me? I'd have to say my grandfather, who is 95 years old, still drives every day , maintains his home and is sharp as a tack.

What inspires me? Many things. My father, mostly, though. After he passed last year, many things became blatantly clear to me. First and foremost, a man is only as good as his word. Don't go to bed angry, because you're not promised a tomorrow to forgive. Be kind to people, even if they're unkind to you; sometimes people have bad days. All men make mistakes; a good man recognizes his mistakes and tries to rectify them.
He was a Coast Guardsman right out of high school, spent time both in the north and south atlantic. He was an electrician who helped wire the World Trade Center in Baltimore. He worked in the mill for Bethlehem Steel, and built ships in a Baltimore shipyard as well. He was a firefighter, and retired a Lieutenant. He was a wise fisherman who taught that, when you took your hands away from the rod to light a smoke, the fish bit. He made me want to be a better man than I was headed for. I'm fortunate enough to know that he was proud of all I had accomplished before he died. That pride has inspired me to continue being more than I think I can be, as both a husband, a father, and a man in general.

It's um... kinda political/religious. So i'll try and answer as best i can without crossing a line. The short and sweet of it is... I didn't get to grow up like most people. Had a lot heaped upon me from birth. So i've always seemed to have a different out look than others. Which had pretty much turned me into a modern day hermit.
Or even monk as i prefer to be called. The world inspires me namely the state that's its in. Spent the better part of the past 10 years studying just that. In the end its lead me to want to do something. Don't care how big or small that "something" is. Long as i try and give back before i die.
And over the past year i've been moving more and more in that direction. Now I'll just stop there before i cross the line.

I can't say there's a whole lot in this world that inspires me. It's a frustrating place to live when people and events cease to surprise you and do exactly what you would expect. I suppose you can say in that sense God inspires me. That's one guy who I generally can't anticipate.

I guess my biggest inspiration is my mother, who died when I was two days old at the very young age of twenty four. She was a special ed teacher's aid, musician and poet and a very compassionate person. So I've always felt I needed to do something important with my life. That has also manifested itself through my personal spiritual beliefs, but mostly through my animal rescue work. I began rescuing cats and dogs before kindergarten (my adoptive parents encouraged and helped me), moved on to livestock by ten, and have been running a reptile rescue since I was nineteen. It began with relocating wild/venomous snakes and wild animal disaster relief, recovery and rehabilitation, and has since moved on to captive reptiles. I do education about them, re-home the ones I can and become a permanent home for disabled ones. The animals themselves also provide a huge inspiration; I'm constantly wanting to do more to help them and better the things I can do. Last but not least, my fiance, because he believes I can do anything (my adoptive dad did, too) and I'm finally beginning to believe that myself. Thanks for listening to a crazy snake lady's rambling. P.S.: Music inspires me as well. My tastes are very eclectic.

What inspires me? Several things: --The chivalric code, which is a lot like the second thing that inspires me, the seven virtures of bushido (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushid%C5% ). I can't truly live honorably --I have a lot of faults-- but I aspire to . --Music. You can find a lot of inspiration in music, for various purposes. For example: Like what was stated above, I find some inspiration in metal. I listen to metal when I engage in physical exercises. --My imagination. . . . and a few more things, but these are what came off the top of my head . --Edward

I cant really find a good teacher. Less of one that blows harp. It has been my goal for a few years now that after I finish training I want to head to Canada. Maybe we can meet up some day. Until then I must say that Dylan is the man

A lot of things inspire me, really. There's the usual, my father, Dad, who has always lead by example rather than by rote; my Mom who struggled through the inherent adversity of being a white woman married to a black man with kids- despite it all, she has always maintained a healthy and positive outlook- exhorting me and my siblings to strive and achieve whatever our hearts were set on, because she knew we could. The current President inspires me, as I never thought I'd live to see the day... Music also inspires me...I've found myself moved most often by classical music (Ravel, Beethoven, Wagner to name a few) but there's been a contemporary artist or two (Amy Lee- her vocals are haunting and ethereal...I could listen to her sing any day) who could make me feel things that you tend to forget about because let's face it, contemporary music isn't what it meant just 20 or 30 years ago...I hate to say it, but a lot of what kids listen to these days does not qualify as 'music' to me. I'm also inspired by so-called normal people who manage to rise above great adversity to realize their goals/dreams or accomplish something that no one else thought possible. You hear stories of EMS/police/medical personnel who go up against staggering odds and still pull off the 'win' so to speak. Those people inspire me. There are a few people on here who inspire me- crazycolerogers for instance; you can say what you want- that kid's got chutzpah. I've seen people in similar situations who are (understandably) depressed and life is more about existence than living...you go Cole, I'm rootin for ya. I am inspired by young men like Cole, Brogdon and Jonathan who, rather than running around in the streets with their buddies cutting up and causing havoc (or just doing dumb teen stuff) are on here, soaking up knowledge from their elders, and doing it in an intelligent and respectful manner. Which reminds me, why aren't you young men in school? Or Bill (Tsafa), and I always use this because it still sticks with me today- Bill stuck to his guns when an entire forum tried to shout him down, tell him he was plain dumb for the pell tests he was doing, how it wasn't historical (even though pell training in fact, is), or the abuse he put his swords to in such tests weren't the purpose for which they were made, yada yada yada ad nauseum. I witnessed it all and kept quiet as I had no experience with what he was doing, but I couldn't find a reason why it was dumb or stupid- it was just something no one else had considered doing before. So, kudos Bill- you're on my inspiration list as well. I gotta say, morpheus' grandfather is an inspiration as well...that man doesn't look a day over 70, someone's living RIGHT. I'm also inspired, like Edward, by the chivalric code- and the stories I've read about knights living by said code (even though most of it was fiction, that too can be inspirational). I find that, through adversity, the 'average' human being can achieve great and fantastic feats of whatever- the sky's really the limit if the determination and desire are present and accounted for. I have received inspiration from other sources, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

I am one of those who thinks Robert Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan is untalented (not my cup of tea is a better choice of words I am sure he has talent or he would not still be around.). This band linked here has a singer that sort of sounds like him and is sort of folky but thats where the similarities end. The harmonies and riffs are different than folk and somewhat whimsical. I am inspired by the tough hombres in this U tube vid.

People I know that I admire because they are strong, tough, smart, good looking and still have a gentle spirit, and don't get stuck up in spite of their superior qualities

This thread is amazing. I only had a minute to type my first post (I was just about to walk out of the door for school, Ebon), but I won't add much else. I forgot to mention that I am inspired by the members of Sword Buyers' Guide, for they are keeping tradition alive in a forgetful world.

On top of that, he has a fantastic sense of humor! He's one of the funniest people I know, and one of the most talented as well. And I agree that all the good kids on this board are also cause for inspiration. Keep it up; grow from great kids into great men and women. We're all watching and cheering for you! May the wind be at your back, -MidoriKurogami of Sword N Armory.
