The Other day I found myself in a bar that is a very unlikely place for me. It was actually a Karaoke bar with a live band. Now for most people who dont know me I dont drink at bars. So as the night went on friends of mine went up and sang lots of stuff. A friend of mine asked me to sing and I did not know what to sing... I semprinied out at first and decided to actually have a few drinks. Feeling calm I asked the band if they knew a "Girl from the north country"-Bob Dylan One guy did and he did the Guitar work while I did weak vocals. I in an attempt to look good I dedicated to song to a girl from work I was sweet on.... The bar owner laughed because he said he had never heard the song requested, nor did he know of the song. After the song I threw up witch the girl laughed at, but I did get props for dedicating the song. I did however get allot of crap from a few older guys in the bar one guy asked "how a kid like me knew that music?"... Another guy said "he must have heard it from his dad". I stated that my Dad Hated Dylan... They laughed and we ended up leaving, but not after the guy who played the guitar for me asked how I could sound like Dylan? I replied that it was not that hard since early on he was never a great singer, but the message is what people loved. He was just a guy singing about what he felt and saw.... Anyway I had a debate in the car home people asking me why I liked Dylan. I simply replied because the music "Speaks to me". You can imagine the odd looks, but I listen to his music and as he said in Tangled up in blue "Each on of those words rang true and glowed like burning coal. Pouring of of every page Like they were written in my soul, but from me to you". Allot of my friends spouted that Dylan suck and that he would have never made it today in today's music. I agreed in saying that not much of the music today speaks to me. People don't even know the meaning of the music they listen to. Begs the question what Inspires you guys? Why? I would like to know.... Anyway I have stated to learn guitar so I can play some Dylan. Maybe his words can help me find my own Peanut butter. peanut butter inspires me.

Yep, peanut butter and Dylan. All 42 albums. Yep, I've got 'em all. I also really recommend Tom Waits. Most people cant get past the "bad singing" but then, most people like pop music. That is after all why its called "pop" Shame really...

The wind blowing the autumn leaves inspires me. The falling of snow, the morning dew, the sound of blowing grass, the sun reflecting off the trees. The sound of birds singing, the feeling of the cold numbing my face and smell of budding flowers. These things made me want to live when nothing else did, and inspire me to make music and try to be the person I aspire to be.

I am one of those who thinks Robert Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan is untalented. This band linked here has a singer that sort of sounds like him and is sort of folky but thats where the similarities end. The harmonies and riffs are different than folk and somewhat whimsical. I am inspired by the tough hombres in this U tube vid. His name is Bob Dylan. Its his legal name and it has been his name longer than the one he was given at birth. I agree with him that the name someone gives you does not have to be your name. As far as him being Talentless how so? Not everything the guy does is solid gold even in my mind. But no talent Bob Said in an 04' interview that songs like that come from a magic place and that he cant write stuff like that anymore. As far as the music linked I would not even put it to compare to any Dylan folk from the early years. I might give you one of the later albums when Dylan was not a one man show. I enjoy the early work more because its just a guy standing up there singing about what he sees and feels... Its real its edgy and raw If you want to get into something I would not call folk But still good Dylan. Not "classic" Dylan, but it does show he is more than just folk. I am actually a very big fan of the Rare Country Dylan seen in the Nashville Skyline Album.... People hate this Dylan because he was to Commercial, but I do feel that he is much more of a "singer" here. He has more control over his highs and lows. This last one almost made by friend pass out when she heard because she was a huge cash fan and I just got her into Dylan and she never knew this even existed. It inspires me due to two guys who respected one another singing in their prime. Jonny Cash could not really Change to much over the years where I feel Dylan Has shown some skill in being able to move with the times. Both men still Legends above question

Every day i'm inspired by different things. My wife and son are the biggest inspiration.
But The Internet never stops to amaze me. Only yesterday i stumbled upon the website of Jody Samson. I'd heard of him but never really new what he was about.
His blades are just what i like and love in swords. And for me as a starting blacksmith it's one hell of an inspiration.
Actually I started blacksmithing because internet gave me the info on how to do it and where to get lessons.
So you can say modern technology inspired me to preform the ancient art of blademaking.

other than my faith and my family (me Mum, breast cancer survivor from 11 yrs ago and still kickin' arse, my sisiter who survived a fatal car crash @ 16 in 1975, my wife who is a Type 1 Diabetic on an insulin pump, my son, who is my pride & joy), ...Joan of Arc has been the next biggest inspiration in my life.
Music has and will always make an impact on me,but Jeanne d'Arc has really changed my outlook of the world especially in the is day and age.

Apparently reading about what inspires others inspires me. Threads like this inspire me. One of the biggest let downs in our world is how disappointing we can be. Thankfully there are moments or places in time like this where some of us can be inspirational.

Random acts of kindness!!!
Just when life looks it's worse kindness from an unexpected source can really lift you up. It's also nice to be the one giving the random acts of kindness.
I'm also inspired by individuals who are given crap by life and nothing is expected of them, except maybe jail. And rather than wallowing in self pity they rise above and make something of themselves.
And most of all kids, heck I have five of em ;D. But I love seeing the world though their eyes.

I guess what inspires me is proving the world wrong. Coming to the US as a youngster I was supposed to bow my head down and be a good blue color worker (not that there is anything wrong with that), but that was lower than what I aimed to do with my life and so far I have succeed (for the most part), so that's what drives me on, to prove wrong the status quo idea about people and success.

Random acts of kindness!!! True enough. Random acts of kindness continually amaze me, and give me hope that humanity is not as truly horrid as it appears on the news. And most of all kids, heck I have five of em ;D. Five?! That's not a family-- that's a militia ;D. --Edward

That is after all why its called "pop" Shame really... Oh yeah, Dylan, Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, The list is endless for me. I saw Dylan in concert a few years back, I had a blast! Saw Waits at Bonaroo awhile back, too. I'll be seeing Cohen in one week. Weird thing is, I actually don't go to a lot of concerts. Go figure.

Like the line from "A Few Good Men": "Unit, God, Corps, Country."
I am inspired when I play with my daughters, sit with my wife, cook, sew a kilt. I am inspired by a saying I heard attributed to the Buddha: kiss the ground with your feet, with each step you take. Pipes and drums music inspires me, particularly of the tribal variety. Courtesy inspires me.
Swords, too.

I find a lot of inspiration from nature and animals to step out into the wilderness or stroll through the woods and hear nature and wildlife all around me rather than the sound of human voice or car engine. Art and beauty also inspires me sometimes just looking at my beautiful wife asleep in the morning with the first rays of sunshine kissing her gentle face.
Also this place the SBG because we are all very different folk vith a varied and different backround and spread over a vast area of the planet yet we are all braught close together by one common love and interest the sword. Think about it most of us have never met but if we were all put together under one roof it would be like a gathering of old friends. That's inspireing!
