Ah yes, that fellow. Some very nice stuff; I'm particularly taken with...well, everything. Especially the hand-and-a-half swords. That one at the bottom of the swords page (2000117) is quite to my liking, I'd say... I've seen better vikings (based on personal opinion, of course ) but a good number of these would do nicely. Now, where did I leave that income...

I thought that's the one you'd be referring to. Man that pommel and complex guard are beautiful. I've been wanting a hilt set like that for an ATrim blade for years.

I've been intranced by Vladimir's stuff for years. At one point, he and I were discussing a custom mortuary hilt.......but it never materialized...on my part. Yes, the wait time is murder, but if ever had the funds....it would surely be worth it. yeah Mike.....we need more double- ring guard offerings to choose from

Oh, that one. I had a few good looks at it, too.
560 Euro? That's just a hair under $840. Not bad at all, I say. Though waiting a year and a half or more...eh, to be expected, that.

I absolutely love swept hilts, but they are mostly found on rapiers, which are almost entirely dedicated to thrusting. I prefer blades suited to cutting and slashing for aesthetics, and of course for water bottle fun. This sword combined the two very nicely.
Anyone know of any production or boutique swords that combine compound hilts with beefy cutting blades? I have a Hanwei Side Sword, which is exceptional, but a bastard allowing the use of both hands (half swording aside) would be even better.

Wow, eye-popper is right! I love the look of the double-ring guards--it's the main reason I bought my Hanwei Renaissance Side Sword.
Which, incidentally, is also a great-looking sword, especially for the price. Though I wish it didn't have the hollow plastic grip with structural integrity issues. *sigh* I wonder if there's a way to safely fill the void in the grip to give it a sturdier construction.

I really wish Hanwei would make wooden handles for their rapier line and just charge more, fibreglass for your scabbard isnt to bad but plastic handles just gets tacky Wouldnt stop me getting an antiqued Taza rapier n main gauche though

mmm yeah, that's one of my favourite types of guard, for sure. I have to try one someday. It's been bugging me for ages.
Thanks for directing me to his page. He does some great stuff!

. . . and we're back with prices. Impressively fast; commendations on their customer inquiries . Per the attached price list: The rapiers average around $800-$1100 USD; the Italian sword (#200013) is one of the cheapest at $490 USD. A bit pricey for this forum, but then, worth mentioning for shear quality and historical accuracy. The e-mailed reply he sent me: "Hello, thank you for your interest, I sent you my price list swords in the attachment. My delivery time for swords (rapiers) is - on summer 2010 year now. I do customer work. Hand made. I can do swords sharpened for cutting test. The blades are forged and hardened. It is possible on the blade your inscriptions. Delivery to USA - rapiers cost 90,- USD. (I do sharpened swords and I can do swords for reenactment yet, and rapiers for technical fencing). Scabbard with belt cost 200,-USD. (from leather) The payment for swords: When the sword (or dagger, or rapier) will be finished, I send you message and you can send money on my bank account. When I receiv the money, I send you sword immediatelly on your address. Best regards, Vladimir www.sword.cz" --Edward

Vladimir seems to be a good guy....I've spoken and corresponded with him a couple times few years back. His English is a bit broken but still an up & up chap and the fact that payment isn't due until sword is complete is a nice touch too.
cheers,
Bill
