Good to see Kris again... I always liked him and missed not seeing his cutting vids. His cutting is very impresive, and I always liked his aditude. He gave a little shout out to our own Tom... always good to see... and a little 'cut' to UBC there... not so good to see.

hey! very cool! I was sad when he went private. I'll have to look and see what he has up. . . hard to find better cutting anywhere. Kris is an inspiration.

Go, Tom K! What's 'ianflaer'...is that a persona of yours?
Hiroshi - how so? You make a statement like that, you know someone's gonna ask you to quantify.
I wonder why he felt he had to go private?
You know what else? I can't believe I sat and listened to his whole speech. He makes some really insightful statements regarding sword types (cutters vs battle etc). I'll look him up later, see what he's got goin.

whatever the guy is, he is highly trained, extremely knowledgeable, incredibly skilled and willing to share again. wether he's a drama queen or not is of no concern to me. all I know is I can learn from him and I intend to. Kris has his opinions and he occasionally likes to post them in little video chats like this one. this one is pretty pleasent but occasionally his "Fireside Chats" spark off hot debate. Whatever, that's not important to me, I'm going to watch him and learn from him. this is what we should all do since I think each and every one of us could learn something from him. no need to listen to him talk if that's not your thing but watch him. there are better swordsmen and better cutters out there but it is very hard to find them and they don't talk much to us. Kris does.

I have only had a few personal dioluges with him... but in those brife exchanges I could tell exactly where he was comming from... I found him very direct, which is, to me, refreshing.

When it comes to the mysticism surrounding JSA, "direct" is a luxury that should be applauded. I'm not sure why you called him a drama queen Hiroshi? It is nice to see a practitioner cutting (see what I did there? ) through the superstitions and most of the bulldust. Good to see him back as he is exceptionally skilled and a great inspiration to many.

I was not aware that he had an account here, I've never seen him post on SBG, but I know he is aware of us and that we watch him. I don't think he sees us as any different than the swords of might forum or whatever else. from what I've seen he does all his stuff on youtube.
I think Hiroshi's incident with Kris arose from the time when Kris went private and started his private youtube group. Hiroshi asked about joining since he was and is a practicioner of JSA having studied Kendo and was told no and some unpleasent things to boot. I think Kris misunderstood Hiroshi based on a light hearted video Hiroshi had done but the damage was done and the two of them could not see eye to eye. it's a shame really, I like both of them and Hiroshi is a personal friend so naturally I wanted them to at least be civil with each other but hey it doesn't make any real difference, Hiroshi is still my friend and I still can learn from Kris.

Yeah, I hate that... always sucks to get caught between to guys you like who do NOT like one another. Been there, done that... Having met Hiroshi, I think ANYONE would be hard pressed to not like him... *IF* the got to meet him. Sadly, the iNtErWeBz often do not allow for ones true personality to come threw... and s&%t happens.

I get it, now. Why'd he go private in the first place?

It was something about how he didn't like the direction that UBC was going, condoning unsafe practices was, I think, his biggest "beef." I don't actually know about whatever incidents were in question.

Yea I feel like I missed the whole thing that happened with UBC it was like it was there then all the sudden he had gone private, and UBC was losing respect.

Kris going private did not have so much to do with UBC as it did with his influence over young, untrained cutters deluging him with comments and questions, and trying to emulate him. He felt he was contributing to a growing interest in cutting by 'untrained' practitioners . Also, Kris decided to leave tameshigiri behind for a while and get back to the basics of JSA, particularly iaido. He then re-emerged some weeks later to make a few comments directed at UBC ( which he was no longer involved with ) which caused quite a few members to lose respect for Kris, and not hold his opinions in as much high regard as they previously had.
