I've never posted at either of those forums but I do once in a great while drop in.
I have noticed the tendacy at SFI to look down upon people that disagree with their general concensus. I am not questioning the knowledge or skills of the people there, it just has the feel of an unfriendly place to be.
MyArmoury feels less unfriendly but they seem to take their history and studies to a point that just doesn't seem fun. If it ain't fun, why do it? There are some truly brillant people posting there. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about being so intense, it just isn't a place I care to be a part of. When I see things like "It's outside my period of interest since it is dated 1344 and I only study 1326 to 1342" I just find it hard to relate.
And both sites seem very heavy handed on what is bannable and what can or can't be posted.
Here, we can talk about historical accuracy in a thread and have it evolve into what to do in case of a zombie apocalypse by the second page and no one has a hissy fit over it. I like that.

Same here Chris, same here. Like others, I gained a wealth of information with which to form my own conclusions, but due to all the legal wranglings associated with that whole Angel Sword debacle, they are understandably gun-shy over at SFI. Not so sure what's up with myarmoury but that was never a site I joined as a forumite; I only use it as a referential resource so I can't comment how they are over there.
Generally speaking, SFI was pretty austere by the time I stopped frequenting it a year or so ago. Hadn't realized how much I missed interacting with those of similar interest until I found SBG- but this places feels like home whereas I always knew I was just a visitor over there.
I'll say this about Glen- he was consistent. I felt he was a bit stiff as a mod but then, I feel that way about anyone who goes out of their way to stifle discourse because it doesn't fit the overly-restricted view of the mod, and the board in general. As for him being a member here, he had a wealth of information and insight (altho his little sign-offs rankled me, not sure why, almost like it was a condescension of sorts, distilling it down for those of us too dumb to understand the long version) and I'm sure that'll be missed here...more for others than me as he and I didn't share much in the way of interests except swords in general, but even then, we didn't like the same type/style so there's that.
Mr. Eversberg- I understand how you feel but I can't agree with it; I don't acknowledge academic superiority if it is only due to having access to a greater store of knowledge...give me the same access and I feel we'll be on the same footing. Granted, at least a few of those guys LIVE this stuff but for the most part, I never felt that any of them were smarter than me, just better versed, if you will. All that takes is time, though.
As a Dr. friend of mine put it, anyone with the time and money (and inclination) can get a doctorate- knowledge is the power we can all wield, but it is how much you choose to acquire (and retain, and put to practical use) that makes the difference.

Talk about a thread evolving. What? tsafa has not always been a sword god Next you'll be telling me Shootermike really doesn't like swords I'm just glad I found SBG because I have learned a lot here. And no one has made me feel stupid, even though I may be.

I don't think of people as BEING stupid as much as I think of them as acting it. Know what I mean?

Actually, I've been facing somewhat of the opposite situation. I get the occasional question where the asker is assuming I know More than I know
